Batoning ESEE 5 into Becker BK-2 and vice versa !!

Jeff, you're a very funny individual. LOL.
Really though, not to pick on the OP, but he did say he's going to baton "through", which means one has to end in two pieces (won't happen). The thinner edge gave way, not the better knife. So to me, this test has proven nothing. Sorry, still fun to watch.

Hey Everybody......

Wow....Part of me is speechless....Part of me is gleeful- Buck sold a blue million knives hammering thru nails (RC 40 s maybe but, damn soft)......I am amazed that neither or either knife did not just freaking explode.......... TA, I hope you were wearing safety glasses at the very least.......It is always a pleasure to see a man put his money where his mouth is.......

From a purely technical stand point I suspect more than anything else it was an edge geometry thing.......If you use a cold chisel against a razor blade put your money on the cold chisel every time.....No, I am NOT slamming the ESSE five as a cold chisel as I think they are both within acceptable geometries for a field knife......Each has trade offs........If you do the full thick to full thick test one is going to let loose and I think Jeff will agree that it would be a coin toss...........

I am willing to bet that Tooge will not want to warranty this one but, I will send you a fresh one if you feel the need.........

Thanks for the wtfo moment........

All Best.....

BTW: Ethan, just wanted to say that the bottle of wine you chose at Maggianos was great. can you remember the name?

Man no one thinks your abusing the warranty if Jeff gets on here after seeing the video and says claim your knife. Go get your prize, well done.

I may have missed it if it was already brought up in the thread, but I wonder if the slightly different blends of steel had any effect on the test? It's a common misconception that Ka-Bar uses the same steel as ESEE. Ka-Bar actually uses 50-100B (nicknamed 1095-CroVan). I have no idea if that would matter at all.

Interesting stuff. A BK2's edge and grind is thinner then that of a Esee-5. I wonder how the test would turn out if the Esee-5's were ground thinner or the BK2's thicker. Food for thought.

/QUOTE]

Here's the real answer. I thought this exact thing when I first clicked on this thread and didn't even watch the video yet.

From my humble perspective these videos are good selling points for both knives. Neither one suffered a catastrophic failure (i.e blades snapped in two pieces) after the beatings they took in the vice. Both blades were intact minus the divots which you would expect to see. Seems to me that you can't go wrong with either one. It just comes down to a matter of preference.

I see no winner in this and honestly didn't expect to see one. It's a matter of physics. And while we would nromally call people stupid, dumbass, etc. you made your intentions clear and posted it up without expecting anything in return. With all that said, we appreciate the video, it was fun. Now, email me your shipping address so we can replace your ESEE-5 ;) Seriously.

Also, ESEE is pronounced "S" "E"

I was going to suggest he throw it at a tree first until it broke completely before it should be warrantied. ;)
