Me too, I run to the TV and wait for his show to come on back to back with Les Stroud :D. Closest thing to the outdoors I can get 'til the next campout. I sit on my chair and hold my favorite knife, flint, and bottle of root beer just like a little kid watching his favorite cartoon :o.

600+ bucks!!!!??!!!!
More power to Bear if he can get people to pay 600 bucks I say
Thanks for the review HD
It does look pretty cool................

Im american, but ill take a tough canuck over a soft Brit anyday, lol...

Soft Brit......you have got to be joking. I'm American too, but you have to give respect where it's due. Bear is former SAS.....he is by no means soft. Those guys are hard as nails bro.....I'm a former Recon Marine; I've trained with them on several occasions and I can tell you that these guys are hard core.

Thanks. I would not recommend it for the value-minded. Because of the exchange rate, it is way overpriced, IMO. Now that I know how expensive they are, I hope to see Bear beating his up, and leave those poor Gerber Gators alone for a while. It's a nice enough little knife with wonder steel and hand made craftsmanship and all that. I doubt that it could do anything an SOG Seal Pup couldn't do for a lot less, though.

Same could be said of many blades.

Just joined Blade Forum. I am very much interested in the performance of this knife. Have you had a chance to put it to the test? Horn Dog please advise me at: thecobra27@msn.com Thank you.

He did not serve with 22 SAS, which is the regiment who's exploits are well known. He served in the 21 SAS, and that is a section of the territorial army.
Still quite an achievement, but most regulars of all British forces do make a distinction between their TA counterparts.

I'm no kind of walt by the way. :D The topic is rather recurring in the shooting and knife world however.

I like the knife alot.
I don't care much that Bear cheated.... he's just trying to make good tv, and I don't think he ever actually claimed to be legit. He just implied it with careful words.

Me to, I like the show as well. Everything on television is not real. The show is entertaining and fun. Why all the hub bub regarding Bear, I'll never understand. He is a good t.v. star, and he does a good job. If people don't like it, or the fact that he is quite wealthy because of the show, they should themselves go out in the swamp and get eaten alive by bugs, wild animals, or whatever other miserable things that lurk in the dark recesses of nature.

me and my girlfriend were laying in bed watching the episode when he wrings the moisture outta the elephant dung and drinks it, it made her barf luckily she had a trashcan by her (she was cleaning out her purse) or it woulda been a mess lol, she told me "are ya happy now" and "turn that nasty SOB off" lol, suffice to say she is NOT a fan lol..

And my wife wonders why I spend more time on the net than watching TV...

Gad, this place has entertainment value like no other! :D

Horndog: Please explain to me how one determines what is a 'survival' knife?

I'm not trying to get a rise outa you, just interested.

Thanks!

a leatherman would certainly be more versatile, i dont think ya would really need a big chopper too much.

of course a leatherman isnt "cool" looking enuff for 'ol bear i suppose.

I don't post much here as I prefer to read all the other interesting posts and pretty much stay away from the controversy etc.

I just caught up with this thread now and have been reading with great interest all the comments good and bad surrounding this issue. Firstly I think its a great knife priced out of my range for a knife but that doesn't mean that if you can afford it that it is a nonsensical buy.

Secondly I've been rather interested in the comments on Bear himself such as "He wasn't in the British Special Forces" or that by being in 21 SAS which is the territorial forces of the British military that he is somehow less qualified and inferior then those in the regular army 22 SAS.

I think it is rather arrogant to call him a "weekend warrior" which is a derisive term considering that all SAS volunteers undergo the same Selection and training phases in order to become badged. They have also been deployed in the same theatres of operations.

Would you also consider your Reserve Force (National Guard) Special Forces formations to be inferior? If so maybe apply and do their selection. Then you can speak from personal conviction.

I saw an episode of Bear Grylls surviving in Baja Mexico a few days ago.
I laughed my ass off due to the fact that he tried to retrieve honey from a beehive.
He got stung once in his eyebrows and his whole face got swollen. :D
Having limited experience with survival situations i was always under the impression that you should try to avoid any dangerous situation unless it is the only way to survive.
I have seen him climb rocks, rappel down a waterfall on a root, etc.
Unless i was thought wrong you should always stay where you are unless there is imminent danger or it is impossible to sustain yourself there.
SAR will always seek where you were seen last, so why wonder away alone in the desert, or worse build a raft and take it to the open sea when you are on an island?

Seems like a lot of members here would rather equate the value or quality of Bear's knife with his antics on a TV show. Personally, I like the knife from what I've seen and read about it, eventhough I wouldn't likely pay that much for one. To even think of spending that kind of money, it would have to be something I'd carry every day.
If it were a Busse, I'd bet there would be a long waiting list for one, though;)
