Becker Patrol Pack

For me one of the problems with conceiving a patrol pack or field bag is that I have no idea what someone is supposed to carry in one. I can come up with a configuration of just what I think is worthy carrying. But that doesn't mean any of it would be necessary.

whatever you want it for. the days events dictate the load out.

Yup the 5.11 Rush 72 is a real nice bag!
i just prefer top loading packs because thats all we had growing up.

those front loaders with the zippers remind me of the old luggage bags my mother used to pack for my dad...its a personal problem i know...still...i just can't get past it...
Having used Becker patrol packs for years now and as anyone who knows me can tell you i use the heck out of my packs...i'll just say the things flat out rock! thanks Ethan Becker for a great design and thanks eagle industries for doing it right!...woods

And here I thought the Becker patrol pack was just an unofficial name we gave our gear bags when we headed out, with no exact rhyme or reason to what they look like, so long as they work for us.

if i had one complaint with the BPP....it would have to be the weight of the bag itself...approaching 6.5 lbs empty.
However as military packs go and considering thier intended theater of operations...i suppose its unavoidable.

back in the early 70's we used a combination of nylon and canvas equipment M1956 and M1967...the tropical lightweight ruck was in wide use at the time...But the alice pack was not fully developed till 73 and by that time most U.S. combat troops had been removed from nam and as far as i know never saw service.
Back in the day i'd a given a months wages for a pack as nice as the BPP over any of that crap we were issued...woods

Alright maybe I should ask directly, since searching through here didn't get me any definite answers.

Just what is a Becker patrol pack, in terms of configuration of the pack itself? It is a purpose built ALICE pack that's been user modified into a specific configuration? Or is it something else entirely?

The classic one was not user configured. It came with 2 LARGE pockets on the sides, 2 medium large pockets on the lower front, a lid with a pocket underneath it, and two small pockets on the lid. All of them have drawstrings and lids. Inside there is a half pocket on each side, and a deep pocket in the front.

The "new one" isn't really a BPP, it's a tube with a lid, and molle strapping so you can attach whatever you want to it.

They were made by Eagle Industries in St. Louis. The factory is now closed and moved to Pa I think.

it is a specific pack made by Eagle to Ethan's spec. (the regular is basically a slimmed down and improved Alice medium)
Then Blackhawk made a copy for several years (which is what I picked up on trade a few years back)
last year Eagle found a bunch of them in a back corner of their warehouse and put them back up for sale at ePrey or worse prices. they sold.

Out of curiosity mostly, I looked around on the internet this morning and concluded they are not currently available. Am I wrong? Does anyone know of a source?

eagle industries indicates on their website that they still have some for direct purchase, but you have to contact them for price.

I believe the large version was quoted to me for $360. Good luck getting them to take your money though, I tried 2 or 3 times.

Looks like I need to re-add my pix from the first post. It appears photobucket screwed around some time ago with my albums. I thought I'd cleaned it all up.
