I've got a Maxped Condor ll that I've had for a couple years. Its been a great pack for me.

The only thing that bugs me is that it widens at the bottom, almost like a pear shape. I'd like to try something new, maybe a RUSH24. I have been thinking about picking up a Maxped Lunada Gearslinger for an EDC bag too.

Y'all got me wantin to post up pics of my Monsoon. Curse you Maxped and your rugged and durable wares!

What are those pouches you have on the side of there, Goose? I like that. They look almost like MOLLE sustainment pouches.

I've got a Condor II that I used early deer season as a hunting pack. But when it got colder and I was carrying extra insulation, I used my Spec-Ops Recon Ruck a couple of times. A little more volume, and pretty versatile in the pockets. The Condor II does very well, though, and with an extra pouch or two, can really hold plenty. I didn't notice the pear shape, but you're right, it does. I still really like it though. I think it is going to be largely an every day type pack, though, instead of overnighter or hunting, from now on. Not because of its ability, just think that is gonna be its niche for me.

So, I dunno about you guys, but I am kinda sad they locked the DPx forum. It was a great source of entertainment.

I have a couple, a medium and large. But I don't have them for survival or GHB, though. Maybe BOB, but mainly I have them for overnighters or backpacking. And a MOLLE II (for winter camping).

Why don't you use 'em for survival? I'm just getting into hiking and overnight camping on trails, and I thought an Alice pack would be a good choice. I guess mine is kinda set up for a BOB right now though.

PS what does GHB mean?

GHB = Get Home Bag.

I don't use them because I like them with frames, and they don't ride as well in my TJ (Jeep) the way my frameless Recon Ruck does.

If I "got home" and had to get out, I'd transition to the large ALICE, most likely. Or at least the medium, even though the Recon Ruck is just slightly higher capacity. Maybe mount the Recon Ruck on a frame (it is kind-of an updated ALICE, with the addition of MOLLE webbing). Because then the frames would be very much an asset.

I guess the GHB is almost the opposite of a BOB. My thought is most likely the scenario is gonna involve me being at work when things go down, and wanting to get home to the family to determine the next steps. So, one step at a time, stepping up/out in bags as I go: (1) GHB; (2)BOB; (3) INCH. ;)

So you don't have a frame for 'em? They are kinda spendy for what they are. I went to the surplus store round here and they wanted $20 for a used bent up one, so I made my own.

Nice work! Like that wilderness survival knife-type, too!

No, they DO have frames. They CARRY well, just don't ride in the back seat of the TJ as well as the Recon Ruck, yet the Recon Ruck rides very well on my shoulders. It kinda has an internal frame of sorts, that i made out of plexiglass, so it doesn't turn into a balloon when it is heavily packed. AND, even with that internal frame set-up, it is lighter than the medium ALICE on the aluminum frame with the same gear in it. I weighed them both. The medium ALICE was 18.6 pounds (with frame), the Recon Ruck was 16.8 pounds. So not quite 2 pounds, but still, ALICE was heavier. BUT, in a longer carry, and when really loaded, I think the framed ALICE would carry better.

Thanks. I made knife with a buddy of mine. I don't know what kinda steel it is but I think it was just some mild steel. I made the frame in my garage out of 1/2" conduit. It's not too heavy and I think it works pretty well for what it is.

Gotcha! Do you have a pic of your plexiglass frame? I'd like to see how you did that for your pack.

I know what a difference those 2 lbs can make.

I just toss my pack in the back of my truck so I really don't my pack back there.

Thanks for your input with this.

sad but true.....

in our world, GHB = Get Home Bag

The pouch on the left is a Condor removable med kit pouch. The one on the right is some kind of Tactical Tailor pouch a buddy gave me. Works great for a USGI canteen set.

I just went to see about getting another 6" Spec Ops in olive drab for my Ritter/Becker collab.
In their infinite wisdom, Spec Ops no longer makes the sheath in olive. :grumpy:
I found a few vendors that still have 'em, but I decided to try a WTB post first.
