It pays to work the forums.
Quarter Tank may have just hooked me up with a good find.
Thanks, man.

What I hate, I didnt act quick enough on the Texas Hunt Co Field Master sheaths quick enough to snag one for cheap for the BK2

Did they have the shorts at half price too? When I first looked, it was only the longs.

That IS a bummer. Wish I'd known.
Double shot to the gut... the dude already sold the listed sheath.
Thanks anyway for the link.

Thanks. I made knife with a buddy of mine. I don't know what kinda steel it is but I think it was just some mild steel. I made the frame in my garage out of 1/2" conduit. It's not too heavy and I think it works pretty well for what it is.

Gotcha! Do you have a pic of your plexiglass frame? I'd like to see how you did that for your pack.

I know what a difference those 2 lbs can make.

I just toss my pack in the back of my truck so I really don't my pack back there.

Thanks for your input with this.

I don't have any pictures. I have a description that i did on another forum. I'll have to look it up, and I'll post a link later.

The pouch on the left is a Condor removable med kit pouch. The one on the right is some kind of Tactical Tailor pouch a buddy gave me. Works great for a USGI canteen set.

Thanks Goose. Those look really useful. I'll have to look those up.

OK, no pics, but the link is an explanation of what I did.
The Recon Ruck is made to be perfectly usable as a frameless pack, attempting to correct one of the shortcomings of the ALICE ruck, namely the complete lack of any structure between the contents of the pack and your back. Unfortunately, I think the medium ALICE suffers the same affliction as the Recon Ruck when it gets stuffed, that being the tendency to turn into a round ball attached to your back by the shoulder straps. The tendency isn't as strong in the Recon Ruck, but is still there in spite of the internal padding on your back. So, I figured it just needed a little extra structure to make it ride nicely. The plexiglass sheet does pretty good, with minimal weight penalty. If it was about 1/16" thicker, it would be even better. 1/8" thicker than it is now would be perfect. But I have no idea where to get a thicker plexiglass.....

Anyway, here is the link. It was a pretty simple fix/mod/addition. CERTAINLY nothing as stellar as building your own external frame. I'm not sure how one could make it work with an authentic ALICE, though.

By the way, did you build that bow, too???!

Ok cool its basically a cut/trim to fit flat piece of glass.

Yes sir I made that also. I had a recurve long bow when I was a kid and broke it. Haven't had one since then until I found a few pages online that show how easy they are to make. I'm thinking that mine is about a 50# draw at 28-29". If you want I'll put up a couple other pix of it.

YEah, I'd like to see some more pics. Of it AND the wilderness style homemade knife. Awesome work.

Its a 6' red oak long bow. I made the string also with artificial sinew.

Closeup of the handle. Laminated poppler and red oak; nothing too fancy.

I'll have to take some pix of that knife. I really don't have any. Most likely tomorrow night some time, and if not then Thursday some time for sure.

That bow is a BEAUTY! Downright awesome work. And you specs sound like it would be a good shooter!

how does that baby shoot...

Damn make me one

She shoots pretty good. I'm still learning to be accurate with it, but she does shoot straight.

ya I missed the target a couple times; the wooden arrow shattered and the metal one bent. I just need to keep on practicing with it.

Flexxx, I don't know about that. That one took me a long time to make, and I have a lot of honey do projects to do around the house. Plus shipping would be a biotch.

Here is what I used to make mine those.

If any of you guys happen on a short, olive drab Spec Ops sheath, how about giving a shout?
Spec Ops, in all its wisdom, discontinued the OD color in a lot of its gear. :grumpy:
A forum member just hooked me up with a long Combat Master in OD. But I'm still searching for a short one.
I don't care if it's a Navigator, Survival, or Combat Master, as long as it has the front pouch.

Thought I'd found them here: http://www.usmilitarysurplus.com/surpluscatalog/product_info.php?products_id=2585
These guys even answered back in email and said they had the sheaths in stock.
But then I checked the BBB report (solid F) and the online Rip-Off Reports. That "business" is not for me.
One'll turn up eventually.

So, I dunno about you guys, but I am kinda sad they locked the DPx forum. It was a great source of entertainment.

me too. I have read all of RYP books, and have a lot of respect for him and his travels. I have never traveled anywhere myself. The day of the that fateful posting, seems to me a lot of people pushed RYP's buttons.

I dunno,

love my HEST, its a fun fun knife to use.
