Beckerhead firearms

Got a Shockwave Blade brace on the M92. Also ordered a Magpul pistol grip and AK Operators Union enhanced safety but haven't installed them yet.

Someone mentioned a 5" GP100 a few pages ago. I have one from what I think was the first run of them about 10 years ago. It is hands down my favorite handgun but it is not an EDC gun. I regularly carry it during hunting season and have taken more than a few small game animals with it. You can grouse hunt with a handgun in CO and I got a few clean head shots with that GP. It does in fact balance very well. ;) Sorry for the lack of becker content. I am sure I had my BK15 with me when I shot that grouse but I have no pics to prove it.

Looks like a fun toy. But what do you call it, a fun toy, a plinker or a self defense tool? Dont get me wrong, I want one but would have a hard time justifying another gun I dont have time to shoot. Still, need to find a way to get one.

I call it my AK pistol...

What's the advantage of the shockwave over a normal brace?

Its not pliable and squishy like a Sig brace and it looks cooler.

What a fabulous piece. 5" is a sweet spot. 6" is cumbersome, and 4" is more combat-oriented. The GP100 is an all-time fav. I think they made that one to comply with Canadian handgun regulations, which require a longer (less-concealable) barrel. But what a beaut. I'd swap my 4" model-10 for a 4 or 5" GP100. Although... do love my model-10 HB. :)

Just ordered shims and springs and such for my various Ruger revolvers. Trigger job looks tedious but nothing I can't handle.

What are your thoughts on a Norinco 1911. I've run across one with some WC parts (beavertail, hammer, flat mainspring housing, trigger. still have original parts) and about 200 rounds through it. Can't really find any negative feedback, but isn't it in the Bible somewhere that 1911s have to be made in the US?

I can get it for 500 which is kind of borderline, so what's your feelings here.

the Norinco 1911s were used as the base for a LOT of custom 1911's in the mid-90's.
that's not a bad price - especially if you subtract out the cost of the upgrade parts.

Norinco is actually a pretty good gun company. A lot of their stuff today is a little rough but back before the AWB they brought in some choice AK's, SKS', and even M1A's in addition to 1911's and others. As long as the installation of the new parts doesn't look sloppy I would snatch it up. I don't know if buying an imported 1911 is akin to selling your soul to the devil but there's definitely a few companies that ought to burn for besmirching such a sacred design.

Obligatory range session picture.

The PAP 92 is pretty nice with the Shockwave Blade on there but the US machine Gun folding knuckle got stuck open and I couldn't get it to release no matter how hard I beat on it. The M&P .45 is not a bad shooter even though the trigger reset is terrible. The Security Six wasn't punishing to shoot with the various magnum loads I had despite the tiny wood grips. However the grips are a little small for my hands and don't offer much traction so I have a Houge grip on the way for it, much as I like the look of the wood grips. The LCP says ".357 magnum" on the barrel but don't bother. The loads that are manageable to shoot don't generate enough velocity in the short barrel to be worth the recoil and flash over .38 +p ammo and the heavier rounds that might actually make some difference feel like someone hitting you in the palm with a baseball bat.

I think I'm going to pop it. It looks really good.

Got it for 475, pick it up Wednesday. I'm pretty pumped. I'm also bit hard by the 1911 bug. :o

I had a friend that had a tricked out Norinco 1911 Race gun for competition back in the 90's, it was tricked out and one heck of an accurate gun. It was far from stock, but was a great platform that he built off of.

Yep. Also, full-weight .357 bullets may start to pull out under recoil in such a light gun. Save those for the 5" GP100. :D
The Security Six looks great with good aftermarket grips. There are a number of them out there. The Hogues are pretty ugly, but will do the job. Fortunately Ruger decided that copying Smith and Colt for grip design was a losing proposition. The evolution to the GP100 was really smart. Regardless, GREAT pistol you've got there.

1911... Yeah, I'm a made-in-the-usa kinda guy for those, but I only have one and should shut up.

what I like about the Houge grip is that the rubber is very tacky and they're inexpensive so I can take a dremel to them and grind off the finger groves and some material behind the trigger guard to get a little higher grip. I did that on my S&W 629 and plan to do it on my 625. The GP100 with Lett grips that have the wood insert is probably the best grip setup ever for a revolver.

Speaking of the GP100, there is supposed to be a version coming that's a 5-shot .44 special with a 3" barrel. I'm totally going to have to get one.
