I had to start with a Colt, it had to be. The Springfields look real nice now though.

My first 1911 was a Colt also, an "old roll mark" 1991A1.

IMO 3" is about as short as a .357 should be.

That sounds about right. I'd need to check ballisticsbytheinch but that's pretty close the where .357 mag starts to really differentiate itself from .38 special. Plus the few extra ounces helps with felt recoil.

Springfield TRP. Just because I really want one myself. What are you looking to spend. Springfield has very good options at almost every price point.

$800 TRP? Where are you seeing them.for that, cuz I'd buy one right now. From what I've seen, they average around $1,300.

Even if it was used I'd buy a TRP for $800 in a heartbeat. They have some of their Loaded models for $800 ish actual retail.

What are you using for the grip tape on the front strap? I saw that several companies actually make pre-cut pieces for 1911's now. Is it locked in under your grips?

I just grabbed some from the hardware store and tucked it under the grips. Even on my other guns when I didn't secure it it stayed really well. I think its 3m but I don't remember.

Mine's a Kimber TLE-II, got it used 10 years ago for $500. The front strap is checkered (40LPI? fine.) The mainspring housing is checkered, but it's a synthetic piece so molded in I'm guessing:

I kinda want to get some low profile night sites on it, but other than that I like my Para a lot. Not a great ccw gun with a double stack of 45 but its a great pistol.
