More than likely if you need one for either of those things, it will be issued to you. I totally want one, but I have no actual use for it other than having fun and looking cool. Now if someone were wanting a SBS they could buy the Shockwave and have fun with it while waiting for the paperwork to add a stock. That route would be easier than buying an 18" gun and shortening it. And possibly cheaper depending on actual street price when they hit stores.

Yeah, I could swing a short sledge at trees and get the same effect for all it's good for a civilian.

Handled a few Kel-tec's recently, the folding ones. Funny. I like the .223 model, absurd as it is.

But what I'm now fantasizing about is a Ruger M77 in 6.5mm Creedmoor, with the barrel chopped to 20" and irons added. *sigh* Already have the perfect scout rifle in my 336.

dunno if i'd want the Ruger in 6.5, i'd lean towards the Sako (tikka) myself...

the new Canadian Ranger Sako in .308 looks splendid.

so many toys.

i need to buy a (chainsaw) mill and other shoppe tools first :D

I owned a Tikka T3 in .270 and boy that was slickest action I'd ever cycled in a bolt gun!

I picked the Ruger because I like their version of the Mauser action, it's American-made, and affordable.

But damn, that CR Sako is a hot ticket! How about one in 6.5mm Creedmoor? :D

I have a 36" Sperber chainsaw mill I'd be willing to sell -- complete with a matching pair of Stihl 076 powerheads, one for each end of the bar!
too bad shipping would be brutal...

Daizee, pick up a ruger scout in 6.5 creedmoor. I got one a while back and she shoots around 1moa. I love the thing. It's an uncataloged rifle made for a distributor.

Yeaaaah...ideally. Spent a fair amount of time improvising, both as 11B and contracting.
The guys who were there at the start REALLY did some improvising.

I just saw one of the new iteration of Savage scout rifles at a show-they're quite a bit closer to the Cooper scout than the Rugers...the Savage was out of print when i wanted a scout so I built one off of an 03-a3 somebody rebarreled to .308

might be over kill for my needs at this time

also, you'd have to deliver it and set it up and ... yeah right :D

WAT!!!!
That's just about ideal, though for some reason I like the traditional internal magazine with the hinged floor plate. That's the silly optimization I was after. And an 18-20" barrel... But still, damn close!

I think the Savage is a lovely piece of affordable kit, and I've actually shot an early one. Kicked like a bastard from the bench. I'd love the Savage barrel assembly and stock bedding on the Ruger action. A Ruvage. A Ruvage Rout Scifle. Bladite would buy one, just for the name.

I know the 6.5mm Creedmoor violates Cooper's common ammunition rule, but .308 is just too much rifle for 100% of what I'd ever need to shoot at. And I have a .30-30, which packs a good wallop within it's range. Squeezing the same amount of energy behind a high-BC common projectile seems like a great idea. 7mm-08 was my lust for awhile, but I think that's unnecessarily powerful for my needs, and I could do longish range stuff with the 6.5mm too.

So why not just go with a 260 Rem or even 6mm Rem/243 Win?

Basically what I meant was that the average Joe doesn't have a practical use for something like that and the people that do have a need are typically security/military/LE or something like that.

Daizee, its funny to me that the 6.5 just seems to be getting real attention now when the Military was seriously considering changing ALL light and medium firearms to 6.5 something like 20 years ago, to make all ammo common and because of the great performance. Sadly I guess it would have been too pricey or something. Their testing on an AR platform in 6.5 a SAW in 6.5 and even a M-60 in 6.5 showed improved performance across the board even on the M60, and there would have been the added benefit of everyone carrying ammo that works for everyone.

Yeah, the military is currently NATO compatible, so it's not just internal logistics. Anyway, that's a popular topic on other forums.

I considered .260Rem, but it seems that the 6.5mm CM is winning the battle for the American market, despite the .260's substantial head start. I DO want to be relatively mainstream. .243 is way overbore and too small for what I want, which is longer, heavier, high-BC bullets at sub-3k velocities that don't require a super long barrel to get up to full speed, and can tolerate a medium-length barrel without belching an enormous fireball.

ETA: I also though the Grendel was sweet when it came out, but I don't run an AR, and it hasn't caught on enough. No need to restrict to that mag length.

That Creedmoor sounds like it's maybe not an ideal setup-the brass is not cheap, or from a common parent case, and it appears you only get about ten loadings per case before it goes buhbye.
Why they didn't do a 6.5 off the 7.62 case I dunno...
