Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

Today was goofing off at the forge day.
Started with watching a buddy butcher a chunk of homemade brass alloy - then took his cracked project, melted it down, and tried my hand at making an arm ring - I failed.
But I was able to break my project in half, anneal the pieces, and make a couple simple rings

Then after lunch, one of the guys was talking about his bucket of dead, rusty horseshoes - he thought he could make a couple kiridashi out of one.
So I heated one up enough to fold it, then heated it a little more so I could tear it in half.
Then I made a kiridashi.
And a small draw shave. (That still needs handles)

The Cliphart finally sold after 3 years in the knife case down at the outing store! It finally found its person.
Surprised it took so long, but foot traffic is so hard to predict. That was a sweet blade.

So if there can be a Cliphart (there are minis too, because obviously), can there be a Keppoon?!?
Likely gonna find out pretty soon. :D

At least you haven't gone full dark side with a Kepmuk
(Or would that be a Nesshart)

The Kepmuk/Nesshart would be a pattern only its mother could love. I think for a Kephart to still be Kapharty, its tip has to be on the centerline of the knife and the handle has to be relatively straight.

This Keppoon is going to be a drop-point in the Kephart family - we'll see. Might be hideous! In which case I'll grind it off. Hopefully I'll get it done in time to take it backpacking in Idaho. Else another more normal Kephart will be on the menu.

A shipmate who decamped to Canadia during the Upside-Down swung through town this week for the first time in 2 years. She heat-treated the blade she started way back when:

So the Keppoon is ready for heat. In progress next to it is a mini bill-hook for an underwater robot as a line-cutting tool (v2).

Not sure if the Keppoon will be done in time to go on our mini backpacking trip in the Sawtooths, but if it is you'll see pix. (but an AuK of SOME kind is going with me regardless)

Here it is on top of the pile of gear I'm accumulating to sort through for packing. I'm REALLY liking this one! Still needs an edge. If TSA pilfers it I will be beside myself. (apologies for the 3rd pic being a tad mis-focused. it says 'Magnacut')

Thanks, X!

*grumble*
Apparently my demand wasn't enough to keep them making it. Not only do the scales seem to be out of stock, they appear de-listed. That's nearly my last set.

A local friend has my actual last set - he's trying to replicate the pattern with his CNC machines. I've got to find out where he's at with that. Then we can have various micartas, woods, and surface patterns! Maybe TKC will revive their BK-62 scales idea they were reportedly working on.

I need more of them...

Some freshly sharpened pix in The Gallery:

First actual batch of CNC waterjet blanks from NJSB!
Both sizes of Birudashi in 5/32" AEB-L (I can round/taper or make a cap-lifter with these). Drilling all those holes exactly right is such a hassle. This should be a huge leg up. Whee mid-tech!

Goofing off in the forge day.
Used some scraps from a sword project I made a small drawshave and a seax blade

The little scrap above the knife is what I made the shave from.

I also worked on a Mastermyr inspired hammer - upsetting the face and drifting the eye.

Next step is shaping the cross peen

Wow, busy day!
How did you drift the eye?
I've given up on doing that job by hand.

I used a dasco skinny chisel as a slitter, then opened it up with a drift I made from a tie rod end. All by hand with a 4.5# fiskars demo hammer.

There isn't a bicep emoji big enough for that.

I'm going to Mod my BK!

First swap the scales to a Dogwood Becker Fire Fly clear with green glow stones.

Second...swap sheaths and use the BK22 sheath so I can wear it on a belt!

Yep very intensive mods there!
