Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

Thanks again, fellas.
I'm considering adjusting the underside of that handle to thin it all out a bit more, top-to-bottom.
It's mate is current in construction. It's hard not to get impatient with it, but once the epoxy is applied, all debts are paid. (something like that...)

Erik, I like the octagons too. My buddy did a septagonal handle... That was hawt.

The design of that new Gold Knifeworks mark with the Au is really nice. Love it.

/I'm a designer and really appreciate stuff like this because... I'm a nerd

Here's what's going on today in the shop.. "The Kelley Kleaver" ... three of them actually, from 440C stainless, cut out, name stamped and drilled. In the next couple of days I will get to grinding a basic bevel then off to Peters for Heat Treating. Mostly I just wanted to come up with something a little different than my usual hunting and kitchen blades.

Thanks for looking.

Effity-eff, I'm exhausted:

That's a wax smudge.

Has anyone yet to reprofile a 7 into a 12? It doesn't seem like it would take That much work (aside from the weight doo-hickey things).
Just drop the point a little and bring the blade up to match, lose 1/2" from the tip in the process and Boom, BK12 shape but not the hit to the wallet...

Why reprofile a 7 into something you can just buy? Especially with the time involved grinding hardened 1095cv......when you could do something like this instead?

IMO, grinding a 7 will never turn it into a 12. Get yourself a 12....I think you'll see what I mean.

I guess I would then have to have a 7 and a 10 to compare the 12 against. Considering I don't have any of the three, I actually wouldn't know what you meant until I have used each of them for a sufficient amount of time.

Come to think of it, I would need two 7's, one to mod to near a 12 just to be sure...

Man, Beckers are like Mogwai's that were fed too late...

It took me awhile to break the impulse to ruin a perfectly good knife to turn it into a perfectly mediocre different knife that I could either buy or make myself. At some point, you might as well make your own blade. Obviously you're not there yet, but once you reach GSOM's level of 7-mod it's time to get some virgin steel. ;)

Sadly, Zathras have virgin steel......he is afraid of, uh....deflowering it and doing something wrong. Zathras can never have anything nice.

I have some steel-shaped wood that zathras can practice on. ;-)
