Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

Wow, I like that knife Daizee. I use to almost dismiss wharncliffe and sheepsfoot type blades at first look. But I carried a UH Signature (replaced a few times) since high school, and found i used the sheepfoot of the stockman as much or more than the clip. The spey was reserved to have a really sharp blade when the other two needed a touch up. Now it seems I have a "thing" for those sheep/wharnie blades! I got three folders with that as the only blade, and now a fixed. Sooo, how much? And I wonder if Mr. Ethan ever thought about an Necker with a straight edge?
Or almost straight with the downward pointy tip

Which lucky SOB gets that one? Awesome work daizee!

I resent being referred to as an SOB. Some might find me to be a jerk (though I've yet to be told so...) but have some respect for my mother!
JK. I do consider myself lucky - lucky that I was able to grab it before C-bear....
Should be in my sweaty hands tomorrow. I have a little birudashi and a scrap 'dashi made by daizee and I've handled quite a few other ones he's made, but this is my first opportunity (at least one where I was able to scrounge up the scratch) to own a proper blade from AUK. Not looking forward to it at all, really.

NOT!

I'm deeply deeply sorry! I meant absolutely no disrespect. It was only an expression. So I'm sorry you were offended. ;) :p haha

That really is a great score! One of these days imma get him to make me a kitchen knife. I need a good one. I've had crappy ones for way too long.

I had him make one for me that I designed years ago. Great little knife!!

You definitely should... I'm going to have to have a word with Daizee about this. I thought I was going to get dibs! I'm guessing he knew I wasn't going to be able to get the cash together at this moment.

Thanks, Kenash, and welcome to the subforum.
I come to love this blade shape.

Not looking forward to it at all, really.

Did it arrive??
Now you'll have a set in 3 sizes. :D

That was my first commission, my friend. Tiny is HARD!

hahaha, and this really was another surprise leftover too - your specialty. ;)

Yeah, I've managed to get some classic Daizee that way. Need to get something new, haven't gotten anything from you in 3 years? Maybe 4?! That can't be right! The last thing I got was the Dashi, and that was... 2-3 years!

Small is hard. You did a damn fine job my friend!! Love that little thing. I passed it along to a friend.

I had no idea that I was your first. Now I feel a little special. ;)

Well, it's not my OWN knifemaking - but our daizee does a really incredible job on the knives he makes. Tho.....I did make a sheath to match the scales - 'cause that's the way I roll.

Totally digging this. Been showing it off all day (tho I just finished the sheath this evening) - luckily, I had a couple customers who were also knife knuts.

Cool!
Can you take a picture outside for some better color reproduction? (in the daylight...)
I'd love to see the two oranges side-by-side.

I'll try; the weather forecast is not looking good for this weekend, tho.

Very nice man, congrats.

Thanks, Dubz! Probably too small for your mitts, but it feels excellent in my slightly smaller than average hands. Plus, the blade....excellent grinds and super sharp. Daizee makes some kickass stuff.

He does indeed make some sweet looking blades.

Alright fellers, I posted in the snark that I've decided to give a shot at making knives. I've cut out a few so far and I've ground out a few also. So with the one I was grinding out tonight I've decided to share a picture because I'm excited about it.

Here ya go.... Whatcha think? Remember I've only just started grinding it out.

Yeah!! Go Go Go!

I recommend drilling before grinding, generally. That will reduce the opportunities to scratch up your bevels with other tooling.

Looking good, Nix! Keep at it!

And nice pants Mike. Looks a little low on the grommet count for a Beckerhead, but we'll let it pass because of color-matching. ;)

Thank bud! That's a good tip. It's only ground out with 80 right now. I'm waiting to get my other belts in the mail still. I've also been wondering how I sold go about doing everything. Drilling holes first makes sense.

Thanks bud!! Yeah that's the plan. I've been wanting to make knives for well over a decade. Finally feel like I have the knowledge and resources to do so.

Nick

Nice looking knife, gsom/daizee. Ought not loose that knife in the wild, unless you drop it in deep water, brambles or really tall grass.

Nix, that looks like it a useful design. It'll be fun following how it goes. Are you doing your own HT or are you going to sending them out?

Looking good, Nick. You've gotten over the hardest hurdle, though....just starting! I have steel (and tools)....but sadly, I haven't cleared space in my life to start grinding it yet. Daizee posted a great knifemaking checklist/steps thing here a long while ago; I have it saved somewhere on my computer and will re-post it when I find it. Very helpful for me, since one of the things that seems to hold me back is a lack of feeling like I've got the process clear in my head from beginning to end. Nearly every project I've undertaken has an "oh, $#!+" moment when I realize I've skipped or forgotten or failed to take into account some thing or another......usually after the epoxy is mixed, or glue is drying, or wood has been cut.....kinda famous with my family & friends for shtuff like that. Best advice ever given to me, tho, was after I cut and fitted some pretty expensive wood for a gift project only to realize I'd cut the wrong piece...and the other piece was too short for what was left. I was lamenting my idiocy to a woodworking pro friend of mine, and he turned the whole thing on its head when he said this: "Don't think of them as mistakes; they are actually "design opportunities"." The bench I ended up with was NOT like the original drawing - but it ended up looking far nicer.

Anyway, it looks great from here. Now I'm thinking maybe I should take my own advice.....

And thanks, Dunk - I'll try and get more eyelets in there the next time.

Thank bud!! I think it will be. I most excited about this one than the others I'm in the midst of making.

I'm going to try to. I was talking with the 710, Julio, and he suggested that i give it a shot. So I figured I'll try.

Thanks mang! I'd love to see that list when you find it!! And if it makes you feel any better I've been wanting to make knives since like, 2002(?)ish. So yeah it's taken me a while to get started. Haha
