New steel for you, daiz? Don't recall seeing you make anything with that before.....though I wholeheartedly approve. Something about the edge that stuff takes is almost otherworldly. I like the design, too.

I used my AUK/Haltom Mariner for dinner tonight - and I've been opening my libations with my birudashi. Also spent a good hour sharpening my sister's kitchen cutlery and my folk's as well. They better keep all their fingers; they've been forewarned and I won't be blamed for kitchen tools (even "value" ones) that do their job well......

Hey, GSOM,

Old one, actually. That knife has been in the drawer in various stages for literally years. I love A2, but have been on a stainless kick. Actually, you saw some recently. Bladite's pair of blue 'dashi are A2.

Philosophically, I like to have one each of a simple and higher-end steel in both carbon and stainless. My current goal is to settle on 1084, A2, AEB-L, CPM154 or S35VN

Hooray for holiday cutlerizing! Glad I could be of service, vicariously. :)

I'm working on a "little" something... Steel is 1/4" thick, 2.5" wide 1.2003 (called 1075 on your side of the pond). It's gonna be a BK9 on steroids with a 10" blade.

Meat! Good to see you're still around wreaking havoc - I'm really looking forward to seeing that completed......beastly.

Dayum!!

Going for a hamon? Good Luck! (quoting your ruler)

Awesome everyone, this is probably my favorite thread of the forum.

Daiz I think you were the one who convinced me to try out some a2. I have a blank profiled out in it, just needs a grind and then sent out for HT.

Fitting scales and a bolster (almost there...):

Holy crap daizee! Love the work man!

Have you been selling many of those muks?

Jeremy

Thanks, J!

I picked up a couple orders after posting pictures of Amanda's, but you know how slow I am. There are three in progress right now. Two full size for customers, and the slightly smaller one for me. :)

That is an absolutely stunning piece of wood, daiz.....;).

Too bad you have that day (and night, and day....) job - you really make some beautiful and useful pieces. My mariner goes with me to work every day now. It's my cada acarreo día cuchillo. ¡Mil gracias!

Wow Daizee!
I really love that design. Nice work.

Thanks, J!
It's... 'evolved' in some ways from my other patterns, sort of a melding. I really like it, but am stuck living in a 3" state, so this one's bound for California.

That is an absolutely stunning piece of wood, daiz.....;).

Some oddball in a wig dropped it off on my doorstep. BTW, there's enough left for one more piece! I'll have scraped 4 handles out of that piece, thank you!

Looks like a knife maker's broach.

Dangit Dubz, you're too quick! I was going to say: "a pencil". *lol*
You're right, it's a broach. I made the handle to accept jigsaw blades for various purposes, and then made a crude broach 'bit' out of 1084.

Here is what I've been working on. I finally found a used 16 for a good price to copy the recurve bk16 prototype. Turned out nice. I haven't used it yet but so far I really like it.

GSOM, this stuff is subtle, but I think this is the best piece of that piece yet. We'll find out in another day or two when I finish the handle:
