Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

Thanks man! That swedge sucks and is nowhere near perfect. Probably won't try it again for a while. At least not until I get a more narrow grinder. This 4" grinder is tough working with sometimes.

Here's what I've been playing with.

All sharp and ready!!

The first three from the right really float my boat Nix. The handle style from the first on the right on the trailing point would be damn fine.

I also really like that pot bellied 16 sizer.

Thanks Silverthorn! The handle design really helps with grip and they seem to lock into your hand. I'm excited to get them to the gathering you get some feedback.

Thanks man!! I was busting my ass trying to get them all done before the Beckerwest gathering. Felt like it took me forever though. I only get a few hours a day to work on them.

Yall are really putting out some killer stuff. Awesome guys.

Just finished up a new long belt knife for camping this weekend.

Differentially hardened 1/8" 1095. 6" blade, 4.5" handle. Flat/convex grind, thin convex edge. Green canvas micarta with black g10 liners and brass pins. Even got some WIP pics this time.

Gorgeous work IWHAF. You've come a long, long way from your first - which was no slouch. But this is amazing.

Cranked this out for a charity auction at our church.

Now I think I know where most of my knife making stuff is here at the new house. Still can't find that gallon paint can with canola oil in it that I use for quenching though...

Very cool, looks like it'll make someone a dang nice knife.

Thank yall again, I appreciate your kind words. Actually just got back from a quick over nighter and short hike. Got to start prettying up the knife a bit.

Wow, great work everyone!
IWHAF...I've always loved the way you finish your blades with I guess a distressed or worn look. That's right up my ally.

Thank you very much. This one I finished up to 500 grit and then a buff before heat treat. After heat treat it went straight in to a vinegar bath. Did all my finish grinding and then sanded up to 1000 grit, 0000 steel wool, and then a light buff. After dimensionally the blade was where it needed to be, I just finished it with cycles of vinegar etching, and then hand rubbing with green compound to bring out the quench line. Seems kinda counter productive to bring it up to a nice finish only to beat it back down, but it leaves a good "clean" yet user type finish. Thanks again man.

Planning a cookout. Or cook-in, as the case may be:
