Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

NJBillK's advice is good, though 1084 is much more time/temp sensitive than stainless and tool steels. I usually run two 1-hour tempers.

I will do two cycles @ 1 hour each for my personal knives, or for people that I know will care for them.

For those that aren't used to a thinner edge, or shoulders <.030, I tend to err on the side of caution and play it safe(r).

Eta: Thanks

Zulu, how's the yellow heart? I've seen people heart irl but not the yellow. Looks like it pops on your handles.

so far I like it, first time using it. Easy to work with, next handle I do with yellowheart I will take it to 800-1200 grit. The ones I've done have been left at 200-400. The little necker was "muddied" with oil at 200 and felt very nice.

Amazing lines and work as always Daizee.

Someday I hope to get near that good. Keep it up and keep showing us what you're working on.

Dangit, Bladite, I can't seem to make one without that darn flaw on the underside!

Daizee, your lines are an inspiration to me. Those are pretty awesome!!!!

In my shop I've been playing a lot with the 1084, I've also got a little O1 I've been struggling with this time. I don't think it was properly annealed so it's been super hard and a pain in the backside to work with.

I tried my hand at a swedge; Bk15 style. I'll need a lot more practice with that! Damn. I've been refining my grind lines; learning how and where to apply pressure.

I recently added a ceramic plate to my platten so my flat grinds are a lot flatter; which makes me happy.

Anyways, progress pictures.

Lookin great, Nick!!

That swedge was ballsy. I still haven't attempted one of those yet, though do have one planned...
If your O1 is too hard, you can bring it up to a dull red and stick it in an ash bucket or 450F oven or something to cool it SLOWLY. O1 can air-harden a bit.

Thanks bud!

The swedge was crazy hard! It's not even but it's close.

I just don't get any O1 from the supplier again that for sure.

Here's what I've been playing with.

All sharp and ready!!

Sweet!
Now take some pictures with better light so we may bask in their glory! :D
(I really like the 3rd from the right!)
(every sentence will be exclaimed!)

Very nice, the last one immediately caught my eye (on the right).
Then I gave the third from the right a closer look and I agree about that one too. But damn, that first one is a looker.

Travellers Kitchen King sounds fitting (depending on sizing that is).

padauk & S35VN, next to a close relative :D

The third one I was thinking of a kephard when I was designing it. I need to get better pictures for you guys.
