Crimson: I used your tip and chamfered the holes with a little bit larger bit. It worked great. Cleaned up the handle a bit more and now I think Im ready for HT. Thanks

Hows everyone today? I just picked up an XD45 to try out for the weekend. Poor thing is dry as a bone and dirty as hell. I think I'll give it a bath and oil it up before I take it out tomorrow. I've gotta say that it feels really nice in my hand and I can't wait to shoot it. If I still like it after I shoot I'll probably be ordering one with the 5 inch barrel.

Have fun with it! It's pretty cool of the guy to let you use it for the weekend.

I like the full-sized XD a lot, but can't get comfortable with the sub-compacts at all. My buddy has an XD 40 w/5" barrel and I'm almost as good with that as I am with my 1911.

Now, in the shop...

Very nice all around. I have had shipyards Applehead brew. Man that stuff is good. Taste like apple pie. I highly recommend it.

Stopped in at Flander Fountain. They used to have tons of flashlights, but not anymore.

Saw my first tornado a couple of hours ago. Heard several, but never saw one before.

I've only seen one. It formed about 2 blocks in front of me. I was sitting on the front porch watching the storm. We ran to the neighbors, since they had a basement, and they thought we were nuts. They found out we were not. The tornado kind of "bounced" through town. It set a grain bin from the grain elevator in between two houses, with only about a foot on each side, without touching either house. Strange.

It was definitely really cool of him to let me use it for a few days. As a general rule I don't borrow guns to anyone. When he said I could shoot his, I expected to meet him at the range.

I'm leaning towards the 5 inch 45. I'm not going to carry it, so size doesn't matter much. He quoted me $550 for one which isn't too bad. I could get it cheaper elsewhere, but they provide pretty good service, so I don't mind spending an extra $20.

the extra $20 for a lifetime of good customer service is cheap.
I had one of the first gen XD.45s - before they admitted there was a QC problem with triggers.
I traded it and more $$ than I should have for a rifle, but I REALLY hated the trigger on that gun.
I keep thinking about getting another one, but it's not a need.
now I'm lusting after a sig 250c or 229 in .40.
they are pretty close in size, but the 250 is a polymer framed double stack mag vs the 229 alloy frame and single stack for $300 more.

OTOH, tornadoes are pretty -- closest I've ever been to one when not under cover was less than a mile.
when I built my house, I put in a "Dorothy room" with poured concrete walls and ceiling.

My buddy just got a sig 229 about a month ago and he let me shoot it last time we went out. The gun felt really nice and solid. He seems to really like it. I am still trying to figure out what I want to buy. He and I went and got our permits at the same time. He turned his paperwork in about a month sooner than me so I'm expecting to get mine back any day now. No idea what I should get for my first handgun though.

Bought my first quality axe, a wetterlings large hunting axe.

Wondering if anyone has any experience with them, and if you think this small crack should be cause for concern?

if they did the 229 as a double stack -- or the 250 with an alloy frame, I would be in heaven.

yes, that crack is a cause for concern -- especially at the price you pay for one of those.

Doesn't make much of a difference here in NY because we are limited to ten shot mags. I was looking at my buddies mags and it looks like they just punched a dimple in the sides of it so the follower won't go past that spot when loading. I really liked how grabby the grips on it were. I also thought the de-cocker was a nice feature.

I'll have a Sig someday. Almost bought one a few years ago, but I came up with the money too late. It was a 229 40s&w. It had a few sets of grip, night sights. was coated with cerakote or something similar, and had been worked over by Actions By T. The guy sold it for $550!!! Still kinda get sick to my stomach thinkin about missing out on it.

yeah that would have been just about perfect -- and a killer price.

Yep, that's not good. I'd send that one back or get in touch with Wetterlings.

I like a Sig. The lady has a P225, which is a single-stack 9mm. AWESOME pistol. It's the smaller cousin of the P220. Limited to 10rd mags, I'd get the P220. Who am I kidding, I'd get the P220 anyway. ;) The Carry Equinox model is one of the most attractive modern-styled pistols made, IMO.

yep, call 'em. up. You whack a tree with that and the head is liable to come apart on you. Mmmm... heavy chunks of sharpened AND jagged flying steel. Sounds startling.
