Beckerhead "Spartan" Fitness Challenge GAW Round 2 is Live!

BJJ for 4 MYB this morning. Came in late and missed the warmup, but it's tournament season so we had plenty of rolling.

Doesn't look like I'll have time for the MMA class tonight :grumpy: Too bad, I've increased calorie intake for my workouts, I feel 95% (compared to my usual 75%) for round 2.

1600m in the pool today

MYB 4+58.6=62.6

Went XC skiing for an hour yesterday. Wish I'd had more time; I had my 9 and there were quite a few opportunities for trail maintenance (trees downed across the trail)....

MYB: 4+62.6+66.6 Doesn't look like I'd make much of a Spartan, at this point. No BSP stuff to speak of other than shooting my bow a few times. Ah, well.

the loadout (I try to load up the pack for "weight" training):

GSOM, that looks like fun! I approve of the amount of steel you brought haha!

43.5+3.5+3+1 = 51MYB. Decided to take a rest day because I've been feeling really run down, but I've been enjoying strength training a lot. My friend has been doing it with me a little too, it's been nice to have a buddy in the weight room!

That's certainly the truth. Helps a lot with motivation. My wife has been joining me for some of my workouts, and it makes them far more enjoyable, especially now that she's not really thinking she has to compete with me. Let's face it; I have a LOT more time to devote to getting fit than she does.

Today I did my shoulders and arms and added in the ab workout. +7 BSP. 2.5 hours of Krav yesterday as well. Tomorrow hopefully 3.5 hours, but I do have to do a presentation in the middle of the day.

-edit- Also, Cap, looking forward to seeing the physique you build up by the end of this one, and seeing how many pushups etc you'll be able to pound out. Great job on getting yourself as far as you have so far. Keep up the good work!

myb: + 3.5 = 83.5

myb: +2.5 = 86
bsp: +4 = 65 leg day!

Mike that looks like a beautiful trail! I also approve of how you weighted down your bag :D

Its awesome to hear you got a partner Cap! My brother and I worked out together from 14 years old - 21. I miss it so much! pushing eachother and motivating through the work out. We built this trust where it didn't matter how much weight we would try to push, you always knew you had your spotter there! Never afraid to try a new weight! It was great! I also can't wait to see what kinda results you get! Keep kicking ass!

Also don't be afraid to take a day off here and there listening to our bodies is important!

MMA (more like kickboxing, my knee is a little iffy and I didn't go for any take downs) open mat/ sparring. Just over 1 hour with just enough rest in between to restrap and readjust. Without rest, it comes to about an hour.

Nice day outside, sunny 62º outside right now with almost no wind. It's not as warm as last week's Superbowl weekend, but still unseasonably warm. Might be a good time to try to get a couple of actual running MYB points in.

Hah! Here it's dangerously cold; -4° with some expected windchills of around -25°. Funny, considering I was in shorts last week.

It's so much more fun to workout with someone! My friend and I have much similar fitness levels to one another. I like working out with my husband sometimes too, but he and I also have a fairly large difference in fitness levels. I'm catching up compared to when we first met. He'll always be stronger than me, but I'd like to be able to run with him. Our workouts differ a lot. We do some stuff together like hiking and things. He doesn't go to the gym like I do, so instead he puts me on his shoulders to do squats and stuff like that.

TBL, I don't think we're as hard core as your brother and you were haha! But it is easier just to be in the weightroom with someone else. Since we workout at a university gym, there's a lot of gym bros there that can be intimidating. I don't mind as much, but my friend does, and having a spotter is awesome.

Got out during a sunny day a couple of days ago, but it's so rainy and gross now. Gotta squeeze a run in sometime today at the gym. Also gonna try calorie counting for a bit. I HATE doing it, but this change up in my workouts has made me obnoxiously hungry! I need to keep my diet in check, I gained a couple lbs since Jan 1. Pretty sure it's muscle cause I haven't gained inches or anything, but bleh, I feel like I'm moving in the opposite direction as my goals.

Well, arms/shoulders still don't feel good enough for push-ups. Haven't done much else until today (though I did walk 4 miles at the airport last Wednesday). This morning was ~ 1 hr. of shovelling 4"of wet snow - core workout, but I was out there in a t-shirt sweating my ass off (yesterday morning it was -5°f, today ~45°...). Whatever. Swam 200m today.

BJJ:

150 L = 0.75 BSP
55 minutes sparring + 7 minutes stretching post sparring = 62 minutes. Let's round that down to an even 60 minutes = 5 MYB.

51.09 BSP to date.

Strained my neck during sparring, so that's fan frickin' tastic. Lateral muscles along the cervical spine are stiff and swollen, can't turn my neck without pain. Fun times. Means no go for no gi and mma tonight.
