Beer talk

This Tuesday, my local (where I do the door on Fridays) is having the rep from Legend Brewery http://www.legendbrewing.com/ in for a "pint night" w/ $1 off pints & a free pint glass. If it's anything like the night the Stone brewery rep came in, it's going to be a fine time. Legend's Triple is really nice & you don't even feel the 9% ABV until it's chasing you down the street w/ a stick.
Fair warning: If I chime in here late Tuesday and I'm posting in Urdu or something- that's why.

Tonight a tasty IPA from Rogue Yellow Snow IPA, 22oz. Bomber, ABV?

Yeah, I haven't seen Rogue listing any ABV figures on their beers. But if I had to guess:

Their website says 15 degrees plato original gravity . . which according to this link works out to 1.061 original gravity: http://plato.montanahomebrewers.org/

I would guesstimate at a final gravity of 1.010 . . which gives us a gravity difference of .051 . . multiplied by the gravity-to-ABV cheat formula of 131 = 6.7% estimated ABV.

Having an Oskar Blues Ten Fidy right now, it's pretty good, very thick, which is what turns me on. Takes a while for the alcohol flavor to settle in on this one, the ABV is not listed on the can though. Yea, it's in a can, I got a kick out of that too. I'll keep a couple of them in the fridge for a while, and see if it calms down the alcohol flavor a bit.

I had their Dale's Pale Ale on tap last week, maybe the week before. That was a great easy beer, I just never find myself in a pale ale mood this time of year.

Tonight having a 22oz. Bomber of Lagunitas Imperial Stout, 8.2% ABV, this is a very nice brew.

A friend and I just ordered up a few of these while eating out at one of our more posh restaurants down town and it wasn't long before I was a buzz'n pretty heavy.. Now I know why they call it Stout. Good stuff!

I like most beers. I love Belles (Michigan Brewery)! It's just hard to find down here in N.C., when I can find it, it's about $10 a 6 pack. My everyday beer is Coors Light or Becks Light (depends on what I am in the mood for). I agree with you, I am more of a fan of dark beer, but don't like the consequenses. I have lived in N.C. since January. I wieghed 178 when I moved, now I wiegh 205! Good thing I'm 6'1!:D

G.

I got hooked on Belles when I was in Detroit a few months ago. Have not been able to find down here in the South, I miss them:D

Tonight, it's Erdinger Pikantus and Aventinus. Two of my absolute favs.

Tonight picked up one I haven't seen before New Glarus Alt. I think they should have called it creeper because the buz from it is creeping up on me pretty quickly.

Last night I had a Santas Little Helper from Port brewing. It was an amazing stout, and will warm you up with 10%

back in the late 80's early 90's it was Old German or Lebenschlogger (or some such name) about $3 a case didnt matter after the first few you couldnt taste it. When I had money I bought Labatts, St Paulie Girl and Beck's. My only "snob" trait would be I won't drink Bud if it were free it is an instant headache for me. Personal favorite is Pilsner Urquell, I favor the Lighter beers not too much of a dark beer person.

Happy Thanksgiving! Today a tasty Dopplebock from Rogue, Double Dead Guy Ale.

I just had a Double Dead Guy Ale last night! Decent . . but I much prefer regular old Dead Guy Ale, which has got to be my current favorite.

Also bought some fancy Trader Joes $5 beer - can't remember if it was supposed to be a barley wine or a trippel or what . . but after two sips last night it was going down the drain. Yuck. Be on the lookout for that one. Brewed by Unibrou for Trader Joes.

I got my kegerator up and running last week - and celebrated by getting my 5 gal cornelius keg filled with Hopworks Deluxe Organic Ale . . . incredibly tasty. I still can't quite figure out what happened. The keg only lasted 7 days . . my brother in law and father in law each had 3 or 4 beers and I drank the rest . . but wow, it sure goes down easy when you have it on tap.

I'm polishing off a bottle (750mL, luckily I'm drinking it over a long period of time... at 8.5% it's no lightweight) of Ommegang Abbey Ale. If I could sum it up in a couple words it would be "toffee" and "caramel." More toffee. When I've heard people describe lots of toffee in the flavor I've never really known what they were talking about... I know what toffee tastes like, but I have not tasted it in a beer. If you want to calibrate your palate, try the Abbey Ale at about 55°F and the first glass will DEFINITELY inform you on what toffee in a beer tastes like! Pretty good stuff, and I'm enjoying it in my new New Belgium Belgian beer glasses that were a STEAL at $5 for a 4-pack!

Anyone have any experience with Drake Brewing Co. I have a clone of there IPA i'm going to homebrew in the next couple weeks. Never tasted it but decided to wing it. So anyone had the real thing?

I've had a few brew's for Drake, very nice stuff. What I remember, the IPA is pretty tasty:

Here's my review of it.

Pours a cloudy amber color, nice carbonation, nice small creamy off-white head, some nice sticky lacing follows. The nose is malty, slightly hoppy, and slightly bitter. The taste is on the malty side for sure like it should be, lots of caramel. The finish is bitter and dry. Medium body. Drinkable, this is an outstanding EIPA, glad to have had a chance to try.
