benchmade mini ritter & large m-390

That's up to you.
They are removable.
Just take the scale off set it up like I have it in the pics and lean on the screwdriver and "POP" it comes out.
Screw the "captive nut" onto a screw tightly before trying to buff it.
So, it doesn't come off and fly across the room.
If you decide that you want to do this let me know, I can post pics of the re-install procedure later today.
Putting them back in is just as easy as removing them.

When I said torx insets I was referring to the recessed portion or the screw head that has the actual torx shape. Does buffering get that satin too or does it remain black?

Sorry, I misunderstood and was refering to the wrong model anyway.
To answer your question....no, it remains black.
For example.......

Mine came in yesterday. As near perfect as I need it to be. Maybe a hair off center if I'm being nit picky. Only thing I don't like is the pocket clip. It looks too big and it feels kind of cheap. I switched it out with the split arrow from my Rift and it is soo much better!

Keyman, will a chemical stripper work for these coatings?

I'm sure there is something out there that would do that.
But, you would still have to buff for a shiny satin finish.
So, for me it's easier to just buff.

Here's my M390 Ritter with a new pair of shoes.....

Is it my imagination, or is the blade thinner on these M390 Ritters than on the regular Griptilians?

You know, I wondered the same thing but I don't have an S30V to compare it to. I figured if it was thinner one of the fellas with both versions would have posted it by now?

Blades are the same thickness. Can't really change that given the molded handles which are designed for a specific blade thickness. I suppose one could use different thickness bronze washers, but... Same old, same old, only change is the steel.

All of the Ritters must be slightly thinner, then. I mean, I've got two older Grips, a 550 and 551, both from when they were still 440C. I dug those out, and both are thicker, with the most notable thing about them being thinner washers. I'm not concerned, though. I like thinner blades.

Just looked on Knifeworks' site, though, and all are advertised as 0.115".

Oh well... Must just be my imagination.

A large and a small cleared customs today! Strange that the mini had the parkerized clip that all my Ritters have come with to date and the large had the standard painted clip (that just says "Benchmade"not "Benchmade USA"). No real worry as I generally take the clips off my minis and I have spare parkerized clips for the large.

The full size one has already been slipped into a set of DeathGrip scales. The small will need to wait in it's box for a few days as another set from Ryan is on its way.

Blades were as sharp as anything I have got from Benchmade - I didn't even look at the centering - blades are stripped from the stock handles already.

How can I get a hold of Roger? I'd like to talk him into commissioning a standard version MDP 556/551 M390 exclusive run.

I know at least one (member "MCM") that has the inside track.....Let me know!

It just cuts like a demon with this grind. I love the high cutting power and edge retention. Got a 900$ jeep yesterday to fix up for a work vehicle. Did alot of cutting. Cardboard , zip ties, plastic jugs for the oil change, stripped some wires. Excellent heat treat and today she is registered!

Maybe try calling them and ask to speak with him? I'd buy one. :)

Call or send an e-mail. I've sent e-mails to them in the past, and they always respond quickly. For your question, phone would probably be the best option
