BEST and WORST places to buy online

Bought a Centofante from them. Asked one day after receiving it to return, handle a bit too slippery for me. Two emails, no response, no phone, no communications whatsoever. Don't do business with SypdieGuys, NO customer service.

On the other hand, excellent experience with Bladeart, knifeworks, knivesplus, newgraham and GPknives.

Worst - Richard Anselmo at laguiole.com.

He sent a defective knife ($100+) and when we sent it in, he did not fix it, did not return it, and did not refund the money.

The Good:

Alaska Gun (yeah, they do knives too)
Knifeworks (great selection, good prices)
Blade Art (nice custom selection, good pics, good communication)
Lighthound (yeah, they do knives - and lots of other stuff - too. Great communication, good selection, great prices)
TADGear (the best goodies in the universe)
Arizona Custom Knives (they offer lay-away )

The Bad:

So far, so good... :D

:thumbup:Great Service:

Newgraham
GP Knives
Arizona Custom Knives
True North Knives
BFC Knifemakers Forum Sales Area!
Blade HQ

Not So Great:

Spydieguys +4: Got a Microdyad from them a couple months ago on Ebay. QC was very poor, bad rivets, fit, etc. (Sypderco has a bad day sometimes). I complained, based on the QC issues, that the knife they sent me was clearly different than the one they had pictured in the auction (which looked perfect.). Their response was that we sell a lot of knives and don't have time to take pictures and check the quality of each one. Of course, their ad implied that I was bidding on the pictured knife  Live and Learn...

Took me a while, but finally got them by e-mail and they let me return the knife and refunded my money. Won't do business with them again.:thumbdn:

I'll second that: The worst company I've had to deal with was thebladeshop.com. Avoid these people like the plague.

I did good business with and highly recommend (in alphabetical order):
www.bladeart.com
www.edcknives.com
www.newgraham.com

lol, my exact 3 favorites! Although newgraham gets more buisness from my broke butt than the other 2, lol...But when I finaly pulled the trigger on my sebenza I went straight to blade-art and was happy to deal with them...I even got a nice free bag of cookies with my order...

The Best: New Graham Knives

The World's Worst by far with no exceptions: The Blade Shop

Have to say I just ordered from the Blade Shop for the first time this week. I'm usually a New Graham or Ebay guy, but they had some stuff I wanted and it was over $125 so I thought I'd take advantage of some free shipping and give 'em a try. Got my order in three days and all was in great shape. Totally understand people's anger when they get screwed, but it's good to hear about positive experiences too.

Cheers

jonnymac, from everything I've read, and my own personal experiences, you seem to the the exception rather than the norm.

I'm glad they worked out for you...

Plaza Cutlery has always been good to me

AZ Custom knives is first rate

MD Tactical is first rate

www.knivesshipfree.com is outstanding

www.Iwantthatknife.com is top drawer

knifecenter is excellent as well

New Graham is a perennial favorite

1sks is great

I generally do not buy retail often as there are a lot of great folks here to deal with, and we all know a maker or six we make friends with and get "on the list."

when i do buy from a dealer, these are the folks I look to first.

A lot of good ones as mentioned.

One to add to Good: www.knifetrek.com

Very low prices. Got my knife in about a week. Not quite as fast as NewGraham or Knifeworks, but very good.
Nice guy, he answers your emails promptly, tell you if he doesn't know something, and seems genuinely interested in trying to please you, the customer.

The Bad:

Already concurred with SpydieGuys. No contact, no returns, just BS.

Also getting amatuerish service from ...... (drum roll, I know , I know... ) BOTACH.com

Four days AFTER I bought something and politely inquired as to an approximate delivery date, I get an email saying the item is discontinued. Call led to a transfer with no answer. Finally just called my credit card company. What a bunch of dreck!

Favorites:

New Graham
Knifecenter
1sks
Central Valley Wholesale on ebay for SAKs

Poor:

Crocblades, I ordered two knives from them that their website said were in stock. After not getting them for a couple weeks, I called and they told me they were on backorder. I then cancelled them. A couple weeks later a box showed up from them, with the wrong knives! They did credit me, and send a call tag for the knives, but what an ordeal!

You fellows sure know how to keep a fellow humble. Almost 60 responses and only two mentions. I guess we will have to just try harder

well, here is mention number three. a.g. russell is as reputable as they come,
not to mention the place to buy a randall made knife and get it in this lifetime!

Thanks Martin, the less said about Randall the better If too much is said we will get more orders and have to raise our prices, by keeping our prices about 30% above his catalog prices we manage to keep our delivery at about 3-4 months instead of his 48-58 months. Randall is one of the best run companies making hand made knives today. Organized in the late 1930s by a business man who loved knives, sold in 1970 to his son who is every bit as good a business man, it prospers today by not growing too large and not cheapening the product.
