BEST and WORST places to buy online

Thanks Martin, the less said about Randall the better If too much is said we will get more orders and have to raise our prices, by keeping our prices about 30% above his catalog prices we manage to keep our delivery at about 3-4 months instead of his 48-58 months. Randall is one of the best run companies making hand made knives today. Organized in the late 1930s by a business man who loved knives, sold in 1970 to his son who is every bit as good a business man, it prospers today by not growing too large and not cheapening the product.
and that is why i have a model 5-5", nickel silver hilt, black micarta handle, and stainless blade on order with you right now. the lead time was great and the price reasonable.

Great service from:
New Graham
Knife works

NEVER BUY FROM Spydieguys
Bought a Salt 1 PE they shipped a Serrated edge. They will not answer any emails. Their website says that they love to go to Vegas often. Yea with money they make with piss poor service on ebay. NO phone.
My mistake. Lesson learned.

Yeah, SPYDIEGUYS even sent me an email " oh, we LOVE repeat customers' but if you have a problem, exchange or return, they are NOWHERE to be found.
Avoid 'em like the plague. Same goes for Botuchis (pun intended)

Thanks to all who gave us a thumbs-up. Always appreciated, it not always acknowledged.

I've bought from Knifeworks, New Graham, DLT Trading, Knivesshipfree, and Tomarskabars with good service and no issues or problems.

I've continued to have good experiences with both Knifeworks and New Graham. Both are great to work with.

Spydieguys was a bad experience for me too. The knife I ordered was not up to standards at all. I had purchased from them 5 or 6 times before. Didn't seem to matter I was a repeat customer. My emails asking for some type of resolution went completely unanswered. My private messages through the spyderco forum went completely unanswered as well. Horrible experience. Another customer lost for Spydieguys

For me, I have had good experiences with:

Knife Center
New Graham Knives

Hopefully i can add knivesshipfree once i recieve my order i placed yesterday::thumbup:

I second the comments on BladeMatrix - http://www.bladematrix.tv/ - for production knives.

As mentioned above, their pictures and descriptions aren't the greatest, so I often go to other Web sites to research knives that I'm not familiar with, but their prices almost always beat the competition, frequently by a lot.

Also gpknives - I live about 20 mile from their storefront. Great people, competitive prices.

My two cents...

ragweedforge.com is THE PLACE to go for Scandinavian knives. Not the best organized Web site but has a great reputation for service, good prices and huge variety.

HoB,

I disagree that www.dlttrading.com is a good company to buy from. I bought a knife from them last year, and now I am no longer able to order from their site. The reason is that I had to set up an account with them last year to be able to order, which included a username and password. Of course, I promptly forgot the username and password.

Then last week I tried to order another knife from dlttrading. However, I could not get past the login screen. There was no way that I could find to pull up an order form without my username and password, which I had long ago forgotten.

I think it is absolutely stupid for companies to force customers to set up usernames and passwords that they must remember in order to buy anything from them in the future. People are going to forget these, and then the company is just denying itself future sales.

Respectfully disagree. My first purchase was last year also, but it's always been the case with DLT that my "username" is my easy-to-remember e-mail address ... when I start forgetting that, I'll quit buying online :) Just did their "lost passward routine." Took 16 seconds to type in my e-mail address, click lost passward link, and retrieve new password from my e-mail inbox. IMO, having retailer username/password no more a burden than same arrangement to access this, or any other, forum ... and it eliminates hassle of having to re-enter personal information, mailing address etc. everytime I place an order.

Will quickly mention, since coincidentally I placed an order for a Bark River Woodland just yesterday with DLT ... nobody replies to e-mails and accommodates special requests any better than Mary and Donna.:thumbup:

I was looking for the SOG Vision (SOGSV68), so I read through a couple threads here to see which online stores received kudos for exemplary service.

gpknives.com came up again and again- plus it had the lowest price for the SOG Vision: $140.50 + $6.95 USPS Priority Shipping. MSRP is $310.00

I called their toll free number before purchasing to see if the Vision was in stock and also asked about their return policy. Call was immediately and politely answered with the person on the other line physically walking to storage room to see if the knife was in stock and a straight forward answer on return policy (also directed me to 'returns and exchanges' link on website).

Bought the SOG Vision on a Friday and got it MONDAY! The dude told me it could take up to one business week to arrive (Had it in 2 days instead of 5-7). Packaging was great and knife is indeed factory new.

They are prompt on phone calls, emails, and delivery time. If they have the knife your looking for, it's hard to beat their price.

I second all the other forum-posters here who will purchase again from www.gpknives.com

I have had very good experience with
knifecenter.com
crystalfallstradingcompany.com

I would send my friends to either one.

Avoid spydieguys.com like the plague. Live and learn. I won an ebay bid on a Salt1 plain edge. They sent a Salt 1 Serrated edge. The Spyderco box was labeled plain edge. I tried to contact them numerous times via email. No response. I eventually learned to like the serrated edge and gave up.
Lessons learned.
Don't ever, ever order from someone who does not have a phone number.
Avoid knives on ebay offered by strictly digital stores.

Disagree, strongly.
I bought from them at least on six different occasions. First time about two years ago and the last time about a month ago. Always great service, communications, and shipping fast. Will not hesitate to buy again.

:thumbdn:Outdoor Pros gets my vote for one of the worse places to buy, since they never seem to have anything they advertise in stock:mad:

Just finished a deal with Spydieguys. Price was right, shipping was fast, but I wished they'd packed it in a box, as the knife came in a tin and the envelope they put it in didn't protect it, do dented tin. Knife was unharmed. Other than that, OK...

The Good Guys are: New Graham, One Stop Knife Shop, and Knifecenter. The WORST are ClassiccutleryUSA on hEllbay, and TheBladeShop in TN. I'd avoid these two like the plague.

outletamerica of eBay was very helpful with my emails. Eventually I got my knife from him. Very very fast shipping.

Haha, about ClassicCutlery on eBay...... I didn't buy from them before, but I've read their feedback retorts and I find them quite rude. They do a lot of business though, and have a lot of positive feedback too.

Anyone out there had any dealings with KnifeSupply.com in Northville, MI.?
I just found them on a link to Bark River Knives. Their prices are very good but I can't find anything else about them. I don't want to repeat the Savson mistake!

Just wanted to post an update on another order from Spydieguys. I bought from them off of hEllbay on Saturday, and the knife arrived yesterday. They still need to improve their packaging, as the knife came in a shipping envelope, not a box. Other than that, damn fast!

crustaceanmick, I found this...clicky!

Thanks SPXTrader. That's helpful info. I also found a telephone#
1-888-564-3388. Think I'll call it and see what I can see!
best regards, Crusty

Good for you. They ripped me off. NEVER AGAIN.
