best knifes under 10 dollars

Under $10 the pickings get quite slim. Most of these are a few dollars more. Of course, $2-5 extra dollars here is +20-50% on the price, so maybe these don't count?

  • The stainless Bahco branded Mora companion is available online for ~$9 with free shipping. Great deal this one.
  • Opinels are found for under, or around $10 every so often. I love them, great cutters, great sharp spine for striking fire steels (or smoothing a carving, making fine shavings, etc), and are lightweight. They tend to be ~$12-16.
  • Old hickory 7in butcher. They run ~$9-11. Its a simple but solid 1095 knife with a pretty good HT. No sheath though.
  • Svord peasant mini. They come a bit rough, but can be had in the ~$12-15 range, and are again a simple but excellent carbon steel.
  • Victorinox paring knife. Not a rough use knife, but otherwise a perfectly serviceable little knife. Cost $7-10.
  • Opinel 112. Same as above. Effectively a fixed blade version of the opinel folder (the handle is smaller though). I've seen the two pack for under $20, and the single blades for $7.

Thats about all I can think of that are worth it in the "bargain basement" price range. None of them are fancy though, and most aren't "flashy" or "cool". They all get the job done though, and I'd trust them for what they are (ie, within their design limits/purpose). Otherwise, I agree with other posters. The options get much better starting around $20-35.

I don't want to deal spot, but the certain magazine where RR pocket knives come from current has the vic paring knives for 5$

If you're looking at Budk....you are looking at garbage knives. I would assume they would fail and cut off a finger.

I was plesantly surprised to receive some Wahoo Killer sheath knives from the BudK catalog. $2 apiece, they are good quality copies of the Mora, sharp with a decent plastic sheath. Very good bargain for a small amount of money.

Or spend an extra 10 whole dollars and not buy a knock-off.

I don't have a favorite knife under $10.

This. Buy once, cry once.

The knife in my pocket for the past 388 days cost $197.95 with extra cost for 2 day shipping.

I have a blue collar job, and I can assure you that knife has given me far more than 51 cents per day of use in the past 388 days.

It is still ticking and the cost/use ratio will continue.

I highly doubt a $10 knife would be of equal value long term.

It is shocking at what price some people value their integrity.

Not just that but the $200 will hold far more of that value should you need to sell it in the future.

Heresy !!!!! I'll never sell my Emerson.

And I never sell knives anyway. Several co-workers now carry Spydercos instead of Gerbers [emoji6]

Gotta spread the quality cutlery disease.[emoji4]

Right on.

Agreed, absolutely. I am carrying a Spyderco PM2 in S110v right now, and I scooped it up for $160 on the Exchange from an awesome fellow member. I am sure I could have bought a bagful of Opinels for that same money, but the money was absolutely spent on the better tool.

I may be a minority opinion here, but I've found that my EDC needs are pretty minimal. While I can appreciate the nicer materials/FF/performance of more expensive knives, I've found that personally I don't really "need" it, and I've decided its not important enough of a "want" for me to spend the extra cash on them. So I'll state that I don't feel that everyone needs to spend $100-400 on a folder, and don't feel that people should feel like anything less is a "bad" choice.

That said, I absolutely do NOT support cheaply made/inferior products, and don't feel that anyone should use junk, as it can be dangerous (for the user, and/or others). So, no jarbenzas, budk, S&W, etc for me. But there are plenty of good deals on inexpensive products that aren't "cheap". But, to the OP, I feel that there are very few knives under $10 that I think are worth it (which I've already posted). It just so happens that most of the "inexpensive" but not "cheap" knives tend to be around $20-35 (Ontario RAT 1/2, ESEE Zancudo/Avispa, Kershaw Skyline, etc), which is why the $10 limit you stated makes most responses go "uh, probably just should save up for something worth owning".

Cheers :).

hey pals! just wondering what your favorite knifes are under 10 bucks. i was just looking at a budk catalog that a buddy of mine pulled up and i was amazed at how many selection there are in it. so many options! i was looking at picking one up but i can't decide! :) i know there are a lot of good ones but i wanted to hear yours opinion on which on is best that i should get. the timber wolf assist rescue has been really catching my eye. seems like a lot of knife for the money. anyone here got one? is it as cool as it looks in the picture?

thanks.

BTW BUDK and especially that knife you're looking at are pretty Mall Nijaish. I thought you weren't a fan of those kinds of things?

If a dude went over to a high performance sports car forum and touted what a "great deal" a Yugo was... what would you call him?

Yeah, don't feed this one either.

I keep trying to return to this thread and post intelliglby, but hang up on the "knifes" in the title...

If you shop responsibly you can get an excellent knife for little money.
20-30$ for a modern knife ( world's best 20$ modern folder is the buck 482 ) , but if you don't have even 20$ to spend you'll have to get a traditional folder . Because they always cost less, a n opinel or 10-15$ Victorinox i just as good in quality if not better than a $50+ modern folder and a $30+ traditional equal in quality to a $100+ modern folder. ( modern folders have more things that need to be executed properly like lock, clip, ease of deployment...ect )

So if you really don't have a lot of money to spend a traditional folder will outlast any budget priced modern folder, if you have to have a modern folder you'll have to spend more.

yep buddy, your right. im not too much for the mall ninja thing like some people. no offence meant to anyone if thats your thing, just not mine really too much. i just figured the knife would make a good blade to leave in my car just incase or maybe in my house incase it caught fire and i needed to break out a window or something. the seatbelt cutter and glass spike on the end would be handy. prolly wouldn't carry it much because thats what my smith and wesson is for. the hard stuff.:)
