Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

Been offline for a while A.L and just catching up so sorry for the very late response. Yes, i have tried the 10 year Talisker as well as the 18. The 10 is a little smokier and not quite as smooth as the 18. Strangely, i think i prefer the 10. I have also tried the Storm and like it as well (pic below). No pic with the 10, so guess i will have to have a sip of it this weekend.

No problem! I think I got the same thing when I compared the quarter cask laphroaig to the ten years old one. I just somehow like the heavier peat and attacking character of the 10 old.

Oh, wow! My mouth is watering with the imagination of what that Oak Aged Ale must taste like. Enjoy the trio!

My mouth is watering to....and will continue to do so as those beauties are the beginnings of a planned 'beer cellar'. They've already disappeared under the floorboards....

Very nice donn  did you buy and duplicates to try one now for comparison?

Only for the Imperial Stout, which I enjoyed immensely on a very rainy Sunday afternoon.
Yesterday I was at the Fullers Brewery shop in Chiswick, west London and was walking. I must of filled a 24L rucksack with close to $60 worth of bottled ale

No style points on my beer today, but it's cold and wet.

That's a solid haul, nicely done! Love those lambs foot knives. Is that one Ebony or Rosewood? Looks great:thumbup:

Nothing wrong with a Mexican Lager in the heat! I like that scout

Some of my buddies are huge into G&T. That Fever Tree tonic really does make huge difference IMHO. Going to say it again and keep saying it, the lambs foot is awesome!

That green and yellow saw cut is top notch, reminds me of a John Deere and I'm a big fan. I was admiring that one and many of your others over in the Barlow thread. I also think Belgian Wit is a perfect summer beer with hoegaarden being a solid classic example:thumbup:

Interesting new crisp beer, same swayback.

Havnt had a chance to try out that crisp lager yet, I'll have to give it a shot. Your swayback is looking good:thumbup:how you liking it? That's a pattern I've never had the oppertunity to try out.

Thanks stonebeard. It's really small, which makes it easy to carry in my "home" shorts pockets. Doesn't pull my shorts down like other knives.

Nice! That's a big plus in my book as I often wear climbing shorts when not working. I do like bigger knives but they are really over bearing when not wearing jeans or carhart style work pants. I was carrying a #25 very successfully in shorts and dont mind a single blade #15 or my Trestle Pines Portage. I'm thinking the #14 is going to be a great option for those who like shorts or live in tropical climates.

Yes, I often wear board shorts since it's so hot here in Hawaii. I like bigger knives too, but they are difficult to carry in those shorts. I do have a 14 on reserve, but am on the fence with that. My 77 is already a little small for my liking. The 74 sure is a great compromise of handle length, weight, and slimness. I like the case, since I don't have to worry about beating it up as much as the gec

Thanks! It's the rosewood. I started off with the sodbuster but swapped to the lambs foot after taking a photo for Jack's Guardian of the Lambsfoot thread.

I agree about Hoegaarden, StoneBridge. It sure did make the temps bearable this weekend. Thanks for the kind words about my Barlows. How are you liking that Portage? I've got my eye on the Grand Portage as a sort of consolation prize for missing the 14s, there are so many fine wood finishes to choose from.

Like others, I like the looks of those Fuller brews you've pictured!
But I have to say that I probably thirst even more for that fine Otter sodbuster!!!

It's a great little knife, my newest addition. I've been after a sodbuster for awhile and thought I'd get a Solingen made one. I'm sure Otter ship to the US. They definately have an English language website.

I definitely get what your saying with smaller knives. I think I've just gotten to where I accept that I'm going to carry and use something smaller then my preference as a trade off to wearing shorts. The #14 is smaller then both the #15 and #77 so it may end up not being your ideal knife but hey who can really have to many knives? Haha. I really like Case knives and exclusively carried a stainless mini trapper for a long time. They are both affordable and very dependable, I'm glad your enjoying that swayback. I've really enjoyed the stainless #15 after carrying only carbon for over six months. The #74's look like great knives in really practical size. Hopefully we will continue to see both carbon and stainless options in the future.

Honestly I really like portage. It's very slim and attractive with light pulls and good quality steel. I had some really informative conversations with supratentorial and learned a great deal about classic designs and issues which can arise over time and use with the portage design. Despite all that it's a nice knife and I'll tackle the issues down the road when they show up. When I bought the portage the Grand Portage wasn't yet designed or available. Given the choice between the two now I'd have to say is probably go with the Grand Portage. Great looking knives in super steel with beautiful wood options and a cap lifter! Cool to see a factory made Barlow with the addition of the cap lifter readily available to those interested.
