DelOro DelOro

Del, you left out the "hillbilly float", Mt Dew and Breyer's Vanilla :D

And a very Merry Christmas to you and your family...

HaHa! Hillbilly Float! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

We can only get Mt. Dew -- Dr. Pepper -- Dad's Root Beer in cans out west.

Kids LOVE those glass bottles. :D:D:D

Mrs. Oro likes vanilla cream soda floats & I'm more of a thick malt shake guy myself. :):):)

The cane sugar Mt Dew in the old bottles is pretty easy to find here. I'm a former Mt Dew Float fiend, the guys at work kidded me about it mercilessly. I haven't had one in thirty years. Way too many carbs and caffeine.

Wow! We got the same tastes! Sipping on Jim Beam now, with WT101 on standby!

Look what I found. Yep, 13.5% abv! It is scary smooth. And they are proud of it, too.

Don't know how to quote a multi-quote...responding to Duckdog on craft beers and Anchor Steam. I was/am perhaps splitting hairs because Anchor Steam was an existing local brewery that Fritz Maytag bought because folks were afraid it was going to close (I think back in 1960s). I am a huge fan of Anchor Steam and all that Fritz Maytag did for beer....I even put a Beer Scout Beer Club pin on my Anchor Steam hat....I'll gladly not split hairs and give Fritz his due.

We are on the same page. I am very excited about the growth in craft beers (one of the true boomers in Virginia's agricultural sectors). You are correct in your citation of recent "new" breweries; I just didn't want some of our early pioneers to be forgotten. BTW, we are booming in Virginia, with the state giving out agricultural grants to breweries to support their purchase on Virginia grain and hops.

Alewerks Fun, Old Fashioned Family Christmas Ale Winter Warmer at my local watering hole. I normally don't go for spiced beer, but this is really good. It brings back those childhood memories of sitting around on Christmas morning drinking beer! Just kidding! :D I probably should have wiped off the knife blade.

The pubs and beers therein of Kelham Island in Sheffield.
Thought I'd put this here as it's lot's of beverages (with my horn swayback lambsfoot) all on the same day and some of you guys have enjoyed my previous pub posts.
So me and a couple of mates have a little tradition of an annual pre-Christmas pub crawl to kick of Christmas We go a different place every year, but this year we pinned the donkey's tail on on the Kelham Island area of the city of Sheffield.
You'll of seen Jack Black mention these pubs and a few of the trad forum members have even been lucky to quaff an ale or two in some of them as well.:)

So we started in the 'Harlequin' on the banks of the River Donn.

A ten minute walk to the 'Gardener's Rest'. Strictly speaking in an area known as Neepsend but it's close enough  A pub now run by a Community Co-operative, it's also the brewery tap for 'Sheffield Brewery'.

I didn't get a bar shot with this one, but it was dark and damned nice :) Could of been their milk stout, or one of their other stouts.

And that was it folks. A day of dark thick rich beers which really suited the weather and the season.
Excellent beers and excellent pubs; I hope your all as lucky as I am in having somewhere like them to enjoy some ale.

Outstanding posts David, thank you for the tour :) You and your pals have some stamina :) I thought you would like the Crucible Best

Thanks Jack, we had about 10 pints over 8 hours and we had a proper meal in the Harlequin first. :D

donn donn

David those pubs looked empty, were folks hiding from the camera? Nice crawl and photos

Cheers Jerry. It was actually a Monday afternoon into early evening from midday onwards, but the pubs were actually a lot busier than the photos make them look. Apart from the Gardeners that is, which only had a couple of groups in.

I really enjoy your pub posts David! Thanks so much.

Your welcome  Hopefully the cathedral city of Norwich will be next in a few weeks :)
