Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

I've only had one bottle of the Quarter Cask, but it was the smokiest Islay scotch I ever tasted.

Nice photo, Wilsonhome! How is the Laphroaig Quarter Cask? I haven't tried it, but I'm curious how it compares to their standard 10 year.

To me it is a bit less smoky than the 10 year. I generally prefer the 10 year, but the level of smoke in the 10 just doesn't seem to fit with Texas summer.

Interesting difference of opinion. Seems like a good example of Laphroiag's current "Opinions Welcome" ad campaign.

I've seen some peated whiskies in the store that remind me of the 100+ IBU beers you'll see, where the excessive smokiness (or hoppiness in those beers) is more of a marketing gimmick. Can't imagine that some of those actually taste very good (though I'm sure there are exceptions to that, just like with super hoppy beers). I do love a good smokey Islay whisky, though… especially this one:

Probably my favorite Scotch. :D

Latitude 33 blood orange IPA yesterday-

Father in law sent me this rum. Generally I'm a bourbon or scotch guy but this dark rum aged in bourbon barrels is honestly pretty good stuff.

No matter which primary knife I carry around a #14 seems to always be in the watch pocket since the release. Really nice little knives.

Loving that rbb and tc. I just got my oily creek 14 in, and it feels really small for my liking. Glad to hear that they are suiting you well. Off topic, I can never seem to get the ice ball out of its mold cleanly. I just hack at it, which ends up in chunks [emoji20]

Haha, I know the feeling! I've started just running the mold under the faucet until it pops out clean. Seems to work most of the time. The #14's are definitely a smaller knife but I like them as a secondary for small cutting tasks and the fact they disappear in the pocket when wearing shorts.

Thanks, I guess I just need more patience under the faucet.

Same here. I was almost disappointed how much smoother the more specialized Laphroaigs are compared to the 10yo. :D

Nice combo Greg  I like the glass too

Probably my favorite Scotch. :D

Great taste ;)

When I was a kid, there was a TV advert for an old-fashioned Milk Stout called Mackeson. Some old fellers in flat-caps are drinking in a North England back-street pub, when a car pulls up outside. You don't actually see the car as the pub has frosted glass windows, but the old boys peer over the frosted layer and comment on the large Jaguar outside. "It's Jack, he's done well for himself," one of them comments sagely to general agreement. A feller walks through the door wearing a flash suit, and the old boys all defer to him. He walks confidently to the bar, and orders a Mackeson, (an old-fashioned drink even then), from the blond barmaid, who's under his suave spell. Referring to the strapline on the bottle, in a manly, polished yet still Northern, accent, Jack growls (cornily), "The Original & Genuine...Just like me." The barmaid bats her eyelashes, and the old men look on approvingly as he takes a drink from the (somewhat effeminate) glass...

And in another life...

:D

I love Mackesons!

Looks like OUR jack has found his perfect tipple though! :D

A group of people are drinking in a swish Leeds bar, when a bus pulls up outside. "Oh no, not Jack again!" The door swings open, and a grumpy middle-aged men stumbles in...

Bulleit Bourbon and a Remington R_1303 Bullet replica by Keith Johnson.
Both are fabulous and I enjoy them equally...
