Is it true that the lighter the colour the smoother and the darker the more ...mmm whats the word? Piratey.?Two of my favorites. Both 10 years old. Doing a taste comparison while watching the Eagles and 49'ers. The difference in color surprised me. The Ardbeg is much paler than the Laphroaig.

Reminds of a guy who worked at Redfern Fire Station...back in the late 80s...Saturday day shift job was clean and defrost the fridge...he had a homemade spag bol in the freezer for just in case....it was thawed and refrozen many times...with assurance that it was ok....Same guy drank the dregs tray of a beer keg at send off we attended at The Iron Duke pub ....its ok though...I was there to help.I wouldn't think twice about it Gary!I've had older stuff than that

That's a great photo, illustrates what you are referring to and you manage to slip in a gorgeous stag slip joint, making it perfect for this crowd!
Thanks, Erik. That's a great photo, illustrates what you are referring to and you manage to slip in a gorgeous stag slip joint, making it perfect for this crowd!
I was always worried I would break a tooth on that King's Cake.![]()
That's not my impression based on preliminary results. If anything, I think the Laphroaig (the darker one) was a little smoother than the Ardbeg. I'll have to repeat the experiment with a larger sample sizeIs it true that the lighter the colour the smoother and the darker the more ...mmm whats the word? Piratey.?
Yes Yes we need further experimentation...Quickly mbkr...the storm is at its height....to the Bottlo! We must have power...ahhahhhahhhaaahhaaahhaa.That's not my impression based on preliminary results. If anything, I think the Laphroaig (the darker one) was a little smoother than the Ardbeg. An interesting theory Professer Mamba...but surely there are other factors...region ,types of barrel ...oh yes they all laughed at me at the Academy....but I'll show them ..my crazy theories are true I tell you.The longer whiskey stays in barrel, the darker and smoother it gets.
They have that in France too, comes with a cardboard crown, as well as the baked in novelty, but I think it is just a sponge cake, if I remember correctly.King Cake is the cake with the little crown baked in and someone gets it in their piece, right?
I definitely wouldn't do that!Reminds of a guy who worked at Redfern Fire Station...back in the late 80s...Saturday day shift job was clean and defrost the fridge...he had a homemade spag bol in the freezer for just in case....it was thawed and refrozen many times...with assurance that it was ok....Same guy drank the dregs tray of a beer keg at send off we attended at The Iron Duke pub ....its ok though...I was there to help.

That looks like what I remember my friendIs that what you mean?
Galette des Rois. There are very different kinds depending the region, Provence, Charentes have sponge cake with candied fruits. This is what we have North of river Loire from January to mid february. There's almond paste inside, but originally the puff pastry had no filling, thus a bit dry and needed some liquid to help swallowing, usually dry cider or sparkling.
You have to eat carefully as the original bean has been replaced by some little charms (French made are quite simple and flat but the worst the galette the biggest the fève!). Then you give and choose the Queen with the charm, an other opportunity to raise the glasses!
