Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

Wait....you can get Laphroaig 10 year for $45 in Texas?!? 😲
Starts calculating mileage and travel time to Texas, and idly wondering how many cases (does Scotch come in cases?) will fit in the truck 🤔
Its $80+ here. I bought two bottles in Tennessee for $62 per. Forty five is an excellent price :thumbsup::thumbsup:
I only really buy Laphroaig when it is on offer here, but I can usually get it for around £30 ($36). Lagavulin on the other hand is about £70 or £80 a bottle now

Too bad I'm not a bourbon drinker. I'm on the wrong side of the pond for Scotch, at far as price is concerned. Lagavulin is on my short list to try.

I haven't bought any in a while, but I checked online... at Totally wino, it's right around $50. I'm in the DFW area....

Well, yes, it's good, but I love Bourbon and Scotch. I would not buy this myself. The box still had the price sticker: $119.99. I would rather have a $23 bottle of Wild Turkey 101 or Old Forester 100, or a $45 bottle of Laphroaig 10 year old. Maybe you could order a shot somewhere to try it out.
Maybe someone else can chime in if he's tried it.
Yeah.... I did that, at a cigar store/bar that I frequent.... I ordered a shot, and was a little surprised to find out it was $30.... I only had one.
I was not impressed.... especially for the price. It was just ok, in my "redneck palate" view. I've had some older blends that were quite a bit better... and quite a bit cheaper. Dewar's 18yr is way better, in my opinion, and about half the price.

I, too, would rather have Dewar's. And the Laphroaig might be closer to $50 around here lately. Haven't bought any recently. Been on a bourbon kick--much more affordable. I really love the King Ranch edition of Old Forester ($74), but it is pretty much unobtainable now. Taking it slow and sharing with my wife. (Got her drinking Scotch and Bourbon now!)

"Pint of Landlord, and a pint of chips please." :D What a great idea :D

I see all these gorgous stag lambsfoots and I am wondering where I can buy one.

Anyone have a favorite authorized dealer?

Thanks!
That knife is an SFO I had made in 2019 Erik. You should read the sub-forum guidelines 👍

Is it true that the lighter the colour the smoother and the darker the more ...mmm whats the word? Piratey.?
There is no merit to such a statement at all. The peaty taste comes from the drying of malt. If peat is used as the heat source the spirit will have a taste of peat. It give no color at all. The color comes from the wood and when applicable what was in the wood before the spirit went into it. Sherry or bourbon is the most common. Sherry gives a more reddish darker color. A peaty whisky can be matured in an old sherry cask and get a darker color. But if you look at the most commonly known peaty whiskies like Ardbeg 12 and Laphroaig 10 they are very pale and very peaty.

The Scottish whisky makers also regrettably use caramel coloring in their whiskies. Unless it says they don’t on the label. So in conclusion; you can usually disregard from the color of your Scottish whisky.

I only became aware of that recently. You'd think better of some of the distilleries doing it too :(
Yeah it’s a weird thing. Especially if you consider how hard the regulators try to protect the integrity of Scottish whisky. There are plenty of brands that don’t use coloring though. Usually also bottled at atleast 46% ABV. Ardbeg does not use coloring.

It's something I shall look out for in future 🙄👍

I like the fact that straight bourbon whiskeys do not have artificial colour added--only what comes from the barrel.

Excitement is building for tomorrow. No work, spring training baseball, and the Albers lamb should be in.
Unfortunately I’m going to the Phillies spring training since they are right down the road. I don’t have the time and effort to do 8 hours of driving for the round trip to the Cardinals.
