Beverages and Blades - Traditional of Course

I try to stockpile some Oktoberfest beer during the fall so that I can enjoy it until Christmas and beyond if I "pace myself" (when the Oktoberfest beers are no longer in the stores, I usually only drink 2 or 3 per week, alternating it with other types of beer).
Monday I had one of these:

I tend to like a malty brew, so I heartily endorse the sentiments expressed on the label:

And here it is, February 1, and I think I still have about a dozen Oktoberfest beers left!:cool::) But the "use by notch" on the label gives me pause, since it advises me to "enjoy before" the notched month of February.

That knife is ...very interesting
Very ... workman

Is that the French equivalent to the lambsfoot?

That’s a good one Gary. I drank my share of those last Fall. Honestly, I don’t pay any attention to the dates. I doubt I’d even know the difference, my palate is not that sophisticated.

Thanks. :) It's a knife I ordered around Thanksgiving (even had a Black Friday discount, and shipped free from Texas) and I like it a lot. But I'm a sucker for a big sheepsfoot blade in a simple wood handle. I have to find something to treat the oak handle; it seems very dry to me, and occasionally rubbing in some mineral oil hasn't helped much. And it's historically supposed to be a pattern that farmers would give to workmen they hired as a sign of good faith: https://knives-of-france-blog.com/barrel-knife/

Yeah, I don't pay much attention to the dates, either, Todd; I have no intention of dumping any Sam Adams Octoberfest down the drain!😁
Sometime in the past month or so, I posted a photo of Ore Dock Porter in this thread, and I happened to notice that it had a date on it of December '99, which seemed very curious to me. So now, out of curiosity, I'm checking dates on cans and bottles just to see how much variation there is.

(My wife thinks I'm crazy for ignoring the dates given on canned food items. I'll sometimes find a 10-year-old can of tuna in the pantry and open it up to use on a sandwich or in a casserole or whatever, and she'll say something like, "If you wake up dead tomorrow, at least you'll know why." o_O:cool:)

Do NOT like the king cake
Sooooo good luck 😁
Didn't know that King Cake was a NOLA thing, until I saw it recently in a post from JB in LV JB in LV in Carl's Lounge thread. When I visited my daughter at the end of 2014 and start of 2015 while she was living in Spain, we had King Cake a couple of times, and I thought it was OK. I was amazed that King's Day (Epiphany, Jan. 6), when the Wise Men allegedly visited baby Jesus, was a much bigger holiday in Spain than Christmas Day itself (at least that's how it seemed to me). No Santas and chimneys; instead, almost every high-rise residential building had 3 Kings climbing over balconies outside the building. And my daughter and I happened to arrive in Valencia, Spain on King's Day Eve. We wanted to take a taxi from the train station to our hotel, but the driver told us he couldn't "cross the parade route", and he dropped us off about 2 blocks from our hotel. We had to drag our suitcases through impressive crowds on both sides of a main street down which the parade would be coming soon.
