this whole thing started about four months ago with a benchmade 42 that i sent him to have the handles beadblasted,pins,screws and blade polished and some filework added.when we discussed the work james told me a two week turnaround on knife.a month and a half went by and i asked how knife was coming along was told he cut his hand and hadn't been able to work on it anymore.was told should be done soon.
more weeks went by and i e-mailed him and asked when does he think it would be finished as i had lost my job and i had a buyer but had to be able to tell when to expect the knife.this is when james stopped answering ang questions concerning knife.he would respond to my e-mails but when give no answers of any kind concerning the 42.
second part of nightmare.i made a trade with james to install a tritium in a knife friend of mines MT LUDT.this was also during the time i was out of work and i was going to get 50.00 from my friend for haveing this done for him.i explained to james this is his EDC and
if possible he needs it back asap.he told me no problem to send it priorty and the same day he recieves it he will install it and send it back out same day.james says he recieved knife and did the work and mailed it out to me.two weeks go by and no knife.finally get him to respond to e-mail and he says it was returned to him because he had put wrong address on it.gave him my address for at least the third time.he said because of all the problems he was sending back the trade and was shipping it out next day delivery.that was two weeks ago.have tryed e-mailing many times but will not resond at all.
the ownwer of the LUDT wants the knife or the money for it.and this is money i don't have.
i gave james till today when i got home from work to respond.he was e-mailed everyday and warned many times.but no response.
so i'm out say 150.00 for the 42,150.00 for the LUDT and i have to give back the 50.00 he gave me for the tritium button.i had to repay the owner of the LUDT today.
this is a warning to all of you don't get involved in having any knife work done by JAMES LOTT if you plan on having that knife again.
 
actually yetwirp, i send out about 10 knifes a week.. once in a while
a mailing gets goofed up, 99% of the time by mr u s post office..
recently i had to chase down a blade that they sent to a companys
mail room instead of the residence it was addressed to..ive not had
them loose anything yet..AND EVERYONE WHOS SENT ME A KNIFE HAS GOTTEN
IT BACK FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS.... NO ONE IS TRYING TO PUT YOU IN ANY KIND OF DIFFICULT POSITION..NO ONE HAS TRIED TO DO YOU WRONG.. IVE BEEN OUT FOR 6 DAYS
NOT EVEN ON THE PC,I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL..I FELL OFF A ROOF RECENTLY AND WAS INJURED,BEEN HAVING SOME VISION PROBLEMS, HEADACHES..ECT..SEEMS TO BE CLEARING UP NOW..AS IT SHOULD HAVE 2 WEEKS AGO.. SO I WAS TOTALLY UNAWARE OF YOUR NOT RECIEVING IT..I HAVE MAIL TO GO THRU AND TO PICK UP FROM THE POST OFFICE TOMMROW.. SO ILL TAKE A LOOK AT WHATS GOING ON..

it's funny how you can't respond to so many of my past e-mails and when i send you the e-mail yesterday and told you again that this
post would be in here,dam if you aren't right here answering it.and
again as in everyone of my past e-mails to you there is no mention of
the benchmade 42.
 
Sounds pretty much like a similar situation I had with him back in April. It is always the fault of the Post Office. Check it out for yourself here.

That darkman dude doesn't seem to be on the "up and up".
I don't think he plays well with others.

Keep us informed as to how things go with this situation Steve. I have been reading of quite a few other similar complaints that people have about darkman's inability to keep promises. At this point I have yet to read anything bad about the work he does, just about his poor turn around time and terrible communication.

Darkman, this crap seems to follow you. I was chucked off a second story deck, but managed to meet my obligations. I did not cough or laugh while doing so, but I did so cuz I said I was going to.....

I also sent a load of knives out to Steve and yup the Post office screwed up. But the knives did arrive.

Make this good. A person without his favorite EDC can be one miserable Bastid!!!

FWIW steve sounds like he's getting the old run around to me, people need to keep the lines of communication open, and things like this dont happen imho.

and the much maligned post office USUALLY works pretty good for me,

darkman, send the guy his knives, and get right w/him, dont get mad at HIM, if anything he should be mad at YOU.........

i hate people who wont return calls/EM's/etc, it sucks

I don't know the deal but one should be very careful about posting anothers living address on something like this . Come on mods. pull your head out of your backsides and see day light . If anything were to happen wrong to Lott you folks could be very liable . I hope all this gets straightened out but I feel way to many people use this forum for a 2nd grade pissing contest .

You know I once had a man say he had dropped a knife and could not complete our deal but then sold it . I did not blast him here . Folks grow up and act like grown ups . Handle your business offline and if he does have your stuff a short trip to your post office will clarify it . it can be checked from either end .

I'm sure as usual I have pissed some off but I swear this forum has gotten to be nothing more than a sandbox . Every week there are more and more of these post .
 
This forum is to report the good, bad and ugly transactions that happen between members here. Not just the good ones. When a bad or ugly review is given here then the likelihood of a pissing match getting started gets pretty high. I for one want to know when there is someone who is not being straight up in his/her dealings on BladeForums.

I think people that don't report bad dealing to other members of this forum are doing them a disservice. If someone is not straight up with you in a deal and you don't report it, and then that same person does the same thing to someone else, maybe your reporting of the problems you had would have warned the second person to stay away. At least would let others know that there is a possiblity that dealing with this person could have bad consequences. I do agree though that every attempt should be made to work it out privately before anything is brought to GB&U.

I agree with some of what you are saying but if everyone really did that there would be so many that very little would get done here . I really feel that folks that have been here for a long time get to much le-way . As has been shown many times all is not as one sided as some think and I point back to the Ganja kid issue that made complete fools of many longtimers .

Please understand , I am not forgiving or standing up for either party but for god sake handle the business end and when all avenues are done then report what happened and the outcome . As for the folks on the other thread that are making the childish threats toward Lott , get a life . He screwed up badly and is now defending himself in the wrong manner but keep all the school yard my daddies dick is bigger than your daddies dick out of it . I really like it here but I have come to the conclusion that I just don't have the social skills to deal with all the WHINNING . If it is all about the principle of things and making it right then go to the post office in the small town where everyone knows everyone and have the good postmaster check it out . I'm sure it would only take 5 or 10 minutes to do it .

I dealt with Jim once , he sent me a shirt and he really did have the wrong address but got it right the second time . I then sent him money ,hope he got it cause I have not checked on it and it was cash . Damn , I may be a thief also .

My only real point is that alot of folks come here because they failed to resolve the problem on personal level and now are looking for the gang to jump in . So many issues get out of hand just because two people got pissed and/or one really screwed up and can't figure how to fix it without looking truly stupid . I have been on both ends and beat alot of the guys have to ( just won't admit it openly ).

Jim, if all is done please give him his blades and put an end to all of this BS . If they are not done just say so and get it done and mailed to him . UPS is only $20.00 from New York to AZ.

Oh well , I remain as much the ###hole as ever and hope to not alienate myself to much from this but settle this guys .
 
Jerry, I have never known you to be an a$$hole. What you say has it's merits and I do agree that all other avenues that could lead to the resolving of issues should be tried befrore problems are brought to GB&U. I do think that Steve has tried to be patient with James. If James had all these problems he should have informed people so they would know why he was taking so long. If he was in the hospital, he should have gotten his wife to email people that were waiting for things and have her inform these people that things were going to be delayed. That should not be a problem since he seems to have her take things to the post office for him.

All James has to do is communicate, but he seems to think that that is not necessary.

I will only comment on one aspect [OK, two] of your posts. First, Darkman runs a Business and has posted his business address many times in many forums.

Secondly, he says blatantly that the knives sit in a box on his desk within his home and he will not ship until he gets an apology. What is the Local Postmaster going to do?

In this case, when the person on the "bad end" runs a business and said business is from his home and said address is posted for the purpose of conducting business, then he has got to expect it to get posted.

And GB&U should be the last and final step after EVERYTHING else fails..................Ira

I agree with both of you , I just really hate to see these things go so far . The local postmaster in AZ. could give all the info. on these packages as they had to be shown as returned . I have done it here in our small town . Any mail that had to be signed for whether the little yellow slip made it to his box or not has to have another slip filed at the returning post office . Hence my quick fix response .

Keith , I sent you a private e-mail I hope we can keep it that way . I put that issue behind me long ago .

All in all there are a great group of guys and ladies( just about said gals , oh that would have gotten me in hot water ) here . I have made some good friends that I have never met in person and had some awesome knives made from makers on here . But on the same hand I have been screwed and let it slide because I knew their day would come . I sure hope all this is fixed Monday .

I would like to see this resolved quickly as well. As Ira has already stated, My strongest objection is to witholding someones property.
It is wrong.
 
Yiterp has been a pretty stand up guy on these forums and has done some pretty nice things for people. If he tried e-mail and got the run-around, then this is the proper place to deal with it. There are just too many excuses as to why it wasn't done and why the packages hadn't arrived. I give everyone a second chance but it seems like darkman has had more than a second chance. I am personally glad that I now know about this as I had been planning to have some custom inserts done and I had heard Darkman does good work.

I'd also like to say this, if Yiterp doesn't get the knives back, I'll be the first to send him some money to help him cover his loss.
 
Mr. Lott freely gives out his name, and address, so he can do business here.

If a customer of his has a problem, we encourage them to resolve it in private when possible, and if that doesn't work, post the information about the deal here. That is exactly what this forum is for, and we encourage members to post the name of the party who they are having problems with.

This forum was created for that purpose, hence the name 'The Good, Bad, & Ugly'.

Your fellow forumites need to know who's bad, good, or ugly, so we know who to deal with, and who to be cautious with.

My head isn't up my 'backside'. Neither is any of the other moderators here. We aren't liable for anything posted by another member. Like I said,these type of posts are encouraged, but only after exausting all other avenues, and I believe yiterp has indeed exausted all his avenues.

Again, that is what this forum is for, and it is not a 'sandbox'.
You may not like these type of posts, and that is certainly your right, Jerry, but most of us here at BFC agree; we need a forum such as this, so we aren't taken to the cleaners right after someone else is. You certainly have the right not to participate in this forum, and that is fine, too.

People complaining about crappy service is not what I consider 'whining', it is called COMPLAINING, and everyone has the right to complain about crappy service, just as they have the right to post the good here.

Jerry, since you obviously think that this type of post constitutes 'whining', I urge you to avoid this forum, and browsse elswhere, so you don't subject yourself to all the 'whining'that you don't have the social skills to deal with.
