Big ass knives...bowie, survival, combat, bushcraft...just big ass knives!

I certainly wish I had more opportunity to use my large knives myself....but I'm a city boy.

That said, what do you use your knives for? All the knives you have pictured show no signs of use (I assume they are "baby" pictures :D), there are no "action" shots of the knives in use, and several (like that Pit Viper) would be illegal to carry in many, many states.

So, how do you use your designs?

1. Pics I showed here are pics of some knives that I just recently had made. Others are knives that I do Not use. I've not posted pics of the knives that I use.
2. When I go hiking or camping, it's for my enjoyment...My fun. It's not for me to sit there and take pics of knives just to come here and post/ prove how good they are.

Not that I really have to explain myself to you. But still, since you asked, I told. If you got more pics of your big knives and wanna post them and talk about them then Pls do so. And if you are hung up on me and what I do and don't do, and if you wanna waste ur time getting in some drama pissing contest, that's fine too. But you will be doing it alone. This is my final reply to you. Have a great day.

I did not see your comment regarding illegal knives. In the state I live in I can wear any Big Ass Knife I have, and I do wear one anywhere I go. There's no blade length limit here. And they just recently passed a bill staring switchblades and butterfly knives are legal to buy and carry now. And also those and Bowie knives Ives are now legal to conceal carry!

I reside in a suburb of Milwaukee, WI but was born and raised in the deep South...Alabama, Louisiana, and parts of Texas and Tennessee.

I moved to Milwaukee for my job. I'm glad they have no blade length limit here and very glad of the conceal carry of bowie knives they just passed.

Like I said, I wear a Big Ass Knife everywhere I go. And will use it anytime I deem it necessary.

Well I'm sorry to hear you feel that discussing these knives and what we do with them is a "drama pissing contest." It is a forum...we talk about knives.

That is quite an accusation. One worthy of a banning. Care to substantiate?

On topic, I like big knives too. Just have fewer and fewer of them these days as when actually using fixed blades I prefer smaller designs. Just a few pics:

Pissing contests need to be taken to the proper venue. Stay on topic.

It looks like the Junglas and that black coated Busse have gotten some work in.....what tasks do you use them for and when, if you don't mind me asking.

Heavy wood processing while camping (for fun! Not survival). The Esee 6 and RMD see plenty of lighter tasks while camping as well. The most used and abused is actually the SOG Seal Knife in the first picture. It is my do everything around the house and yard knife. Ice pick, prybar, garden knife, digging, chopping down pesky saplings, plenty of random yard tasks. It is thick and tough. The AUS8 holds up very good and sharpens easily. With a reprofile it actually cuts now even. And if it breaks it is easily replaced. I've bought them here of the exchange for around half what the go for on the street.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing!

Do the big guns like that Junglas see much action anymore? If not, is it because of weight/size or do feel you can now do all the same tasks with a smaller knife? Or both?

Seems as I get older and older, the knives I prefer get smaller and smaller, not because of the weight/size, but because I feel I can do just about everything with them. Like I don't need the "big boys" any more...still like them though!

I used to have the SOG Tigershark Elite knife and the SOG 37-K SEAL Teams Elite. But ended up trading them for some sheaths to be made. I kinda miss them. Now though, I'm wanting the SOG Tigershark that is made in SEKI, Japan. Those are the very first Tigershark knives made..And they were the best made knives too!

The Junglas and TGLB still see plenty of use for larger tasks like heavy Batoning () and delimbing. But for all the other tasks I do camping and otherwise my smaller blades are all I need, but not as fun. And for an EDC a 3"-5" fixed blade is perfect. If I could justify walking around like rambo all day everyday believe me I would. I just don't need that much knife daily. However it would be fun! Just smashing apples with a Junglas or cutting my burrito with a TGLB. Doesn't make much sense though.....

Never heard of them ;)

PS, I've owned most of the Seki SOG blades including several SMCA Tigersharks. Check my started threads or head over to the SOG subforum.

I didn't have as good a luck with my AUS 8 Tigershark knife as you have. Everytime I used it the blade edge on it would chip. Must've been defective. However, my little SOG Elite knife..the edge on it didn't chip once. No matter what I cut or chopped, it never had one issue.

Certainly. Same here with me on the occasions I get into the woods...would love to play Rambo but just don't need to.

That said, I do understand/share the enjoyment of going into the woods for the express purpose of beating the bejeebus outta trees with large knives. (Though not punching them with knucks, which I see are not built into any of your knives :D) I highly recommend doing it within 50 yards of a car that has a trunk full of beer.

I suppose I have similar sentiments when it comes to big knives which is why I also asked thedemonbeast what he uses them for.
As an example, there's no way I'd ever take my BK9 hiking but I do like taking it on camping trips. Even then, I can be very lazy when camping (espeically after a few cold ones;)) and instead of processing the firewood, I just let the logs burn in half and rearrange them thereafter.

Some Big Arse knives sure are good to look at and touch though! So let's see some more pics!!

I found that I had to sharpen past the initial edge to stop it from chipping. This also improved the edge geometry because I thinned it out. IT will still chip or ding when I accidentally hit rock or concrete (while digging or taking out saplings). I've found that many production knives need to lose their factory edge to really see the expected performance you want. No big deal for me though. I use all my knives. They will all dull and will all eventually need a good sharpening.

craytab, how do you like that ZT fixed blade? Love their folders. I own 4 or 5 of the folders.
Scott

Never even used it. The sheath was atrocious. I wouldn't even consider carrying, so I didn't. Sold the sheath. Always intended to get a nice kydex sheath made for it but never did. Other knives came up that I wanted so I eventually sold it. It felt great in hand and the fit/finish is what you would expect from ZT. Great knife ruined by a garbage sheath not even designed for the knife. 3v is good stuff though. If one ever came up with a custom kydex sheath on it I might give it another go. I had the ZT180 as well but it had a similar if not the same crappy sheath. Luckily the one I got came with a nice kydex. As it is though, all my knives in that size range are being made obsolete CPK Field Knife. It is the end all beat all for me in this range and style of knife:

Here is their subforum. They make a heck of big knife as well:

Since I didn't see either one of these shared yet, these are my three biggest and best knives out there, and I've used the crap out of 2 of them already.
