Big EDC Folder Recomendations.

I've never owned a Cold Steel knife. So I'm leaning in that direction. I like the look of the Colossus , Espada , Ultimate Hunter , Recon and 4-Max (although if I can't remove the clip then forget it).

How's the QC on Cold Steel overall? I think I may give them a try.

The OD green Recon 1 I got a few months ago turned out to be a turd. The blade stop pin rattled badly, and the G-10 scale hole that the pivot screw goes through is all out of round. Just a jagged crooked hole that the head of the pivot screw BARELY covers. I keep waiting for the scale to pop off.

If you can find one, I highly recommend the Microtech Socom Delta. I just picked this one up (in CTS-204p, one of my favorites steels) and am extremely happy with it. Great ergo's, built quality and F&F are incredible, 4" blade with grinds that remind me of a Custom Emerson, tolerances that conjure thoughts of CRK, and to me it has almost a exotic vibe going on with the sub-framelock, 3D milled G10 slabs, ceramic bearings, beautiful milled backspacer with lanyard attachment, etc. Blade stop is the generous and highly effective thumb studs (which are out of the cutting/sharpening path). Superb detent - very secure, blade can be rocketed open with a straight forward "Umnumzaan" type of thumb flick. It even has the double retention style clip I love so much on my CRK's.

This may become my all time favorite folding knife, it is that amazing IMHO.

For the Taiwan models, quality is pretty consistent. The 4-Max has been plagued with issues.

The Klotzli Swiss Border Guard is a really interesting knife in your price range. Button lock and thumb stud deployment. I’ve only seen them online, not in person. Button locks are uniquely satisfying when done well.

CS has overall good QC . My last 4 have been perfect , but I've had some few that required serious breaking in to function smoothly . Once worked in they are very strong and reliable for many years . I've even used my big Rajah and Voyager drop point as throwing knives . Only effect was to loosen the pivots , which never has happened in normal use .

My old AUS8 5.5" blade Espada has been my primary EDC for years . Along with the XL Talwar .

The 804 is my latest acquisition. Aside from aesthetics and fidget factor I like it more than my crooked river. They're both great knives but the 804 just feels better in my hand.

I sometimes carry a cold steel Frenzy for fun. It actually carries pretty good and because it's slim it disappears in the pocket.
The manix 2 xl is actually the smallest hah!
