Lots of people already guessed that, including me. I think it's the "why" portion that is stumping us.
We already guessed that it's to retain the firesteel right?

This is driving me crazy....started out just wanting a free badass sheath but now i just want the answer!

You convexed it, leaving added room at the bottom, in case there's moisture on the blade, so it has a place to go to? Hell, I'm just going for it now.
