"Black Box" Winchesters

The Coffin Jack arrived today! :D

...

Wow, SAK Guy, that is REALLY nice!! Congrats!:thumbup: The coffin shape is very recognizable, of course, and I think the bolster design is very appealing; also like the shape of the main blade. Would that be called a Zulu?

Dang.....got another Black Box coming.

A W15 2913 1/2 1988 Texas Jack.

Geez, SAK Guy, you're like some Texas Ranger/ Canadian Mounty combo when it comes down to searching for knives you set your mind on: you always get your man, I mean Knife!!:p:p Congrats on the Texas Jack!!:thumbup:

LOL!!! Thanks buddy! :D

That Texas Jack looked like a big ol' uneven Moose so I couldn't resist. ;)

Whoa! That picture surprised me! I had seen a pic of the closed 2913 1/2 earlier in this thread, and when I read "Texas Jack" I was thinking both blades on the same end (maybe prejudiced by the Case Texas jacks I often see). So a blade on each end, like your Moose, as you note, caught me off-guard! Nice one!

Yeah, I'd call it a Moose too but it's named a Texas Jack for whatever reason...maybe that uneven shape has something to do with it.

Appropriately a coffin, since that knife is a killer! Congrats on all the recent pick-ups, Robert, and I hope you get lots of use and enjoyment from them!

Thank you my friend!!!! Much appreciated!! :)

Are we certain none of these were made of D2? I just received an '88 Swell-Center Balloon Pattern (Moose) and I could almost swear these blades are D2. They don't seem to patina and they sharpen like D2 (does not feel anything like 1095 or softer stainless)...

I don't know anything about that but I will say that on sharpening up that same pattern (2880 1/2) knife this week for carry, it was very unlike 1095 and took multiple sessions to finally get the edge I wanted.

Thanks to a fine member in the exchange, I have another 1988 Winchester Moose 2913 1/2 on the way! :D

My coffin jack came today. It is like new condition, factory edge and all. I will take pics of it next week as my camera is packed for camping this weekend.

Slightly off topic but are the early 90's USA Winchesters with the rifle shield of decent quality?

Same quality as Black Box Winchesters from my experience.

BTW, congratulations on your latest Winchesters, SAK! You're hooked, ain'tcha? :D
