Blade Forums Spring Street Barlow (BF Knife 2021)

I remember back wistfully to the "Color" vote, or whatever it was, and wish, one last time, we had gone with the White/Natural option.

Think of the dye jobs we would be seeing! Envious Greens! Angry Reds! Serious Blues! The mind boggles.

If your Captain Negative, who's the other guy🤔

That's...an interesting take on the situation.

Did you buy the knife intending to enjoy owning it, or in order to be one of the first to post pictures and write a review? I mean, even if you were the first one to get it, at the end of the thread you're still sitting with a knife in your hand like everyone else lucky enough to score one. Enjoy the party or don't.
Hard to enjoy the party when the party hasn't arrived yet.
I have my very good friend Duncan's Campbellclanman Campbellclanman sitting at my house in a place my wife and I call the New Zealand Post office area, a cove in the upper right of our closet just waiting to make the great journey to the Kiwi paradise. We discuss if it should ship now or wait until another current package that's in transit should arrive first. He said to wait and as he's told me many times before "it's just a knife mate". I am more excited than he is for him to receive and use this wonderful knife.

So as bad as it is, can you imagine how long others overseas wait for each and every knife:( and made worse in Duncan's case because I RUB IT IN EVERY DAY 😂 ;):p
Yeah Aussies are in another universe, they don't count.
Fred, if you are anywhere close to the Crystal Coast of eastern NC come by, I'll fix you a drink of good bourbon and take you fishing. One or the other of those two things will make everything fine. OH
Hell of an offer, you are barking right up my alley with both. And being an "Old Hunter" - gotta be a good dude. Been as far south as Okracoke and it has been awhile.

Really people?! Some interesting responses, some expected, some not. I appreciate them all.

Sometimes it is hard to know when someone is serious or not, especially if you don't know them. And I am fully confident that most don't know me at all, a couple people maybe a little, depending on if you wander into other threads I frequent.

I was really making light of all the crap I read in this thread. The funny part for me was the reality that the knife was made 3 hours away but had to be shipped 3000 miles west to be shipped 3000 miles back east, the fact that I may have been one of the very first ones to complete the order process which meant I was last to have one sent and I got see all those that were genuinely happy to get one and post their pictures, get patina-ed, etc. Jealous? Not in the least.

But the other stuff - hated having to wade through it to get the good stuff.

Here is the reality:

I have patience that has been described as inhuman and endless.
I am not easily offended.
I appreciate all the good people that made this come to fruition - they know who they are and so do I.
I am a fairly regular reader of this section and a rare poster, so I know what to expect from some people. The reverse not so much.
Never take me seriously. There will be no question in anyone's mind when I get serious.

Hopefully that explains some of my responses above as well.

This was recommended earlier to ED and it intrigued me.
It's my new plan, I am going to carry my Forum Knife every day.
I'm going to put a thick layer of natural patina on the blade, spots and all.
I'm going to let it get scratched and marred up from keys and coins and work.
When it's looking well-used, and I've grown attached to it, I'll give it away to somebody.
That will mean more than giving somebody a brand new knife with inflated value, it will have sentimental value.
Who knows, maybe I'll do a pass-around before I gift it... That would be fun.
That's what the Forum Knife should be about!!!

Here it is on Day #1... You can watch the Totin' thread to see the progress.

I think that is a great idea.

Fred, mine was light hearted as the reason for the emoji's I choose, plus it was a chance for me to take a jab at my best friend, he doesn't think we are but I keep telling him that we are anyways. Please NEVER call a KIWI an AUSSIE or vice versa, there's enough tension between Duncan Campbellclanman Campbellclanman and Meako meako meako the way it is!!!😂

I'm not going to apologize for my longwinded post the other day. It's why I included pictures - those who didn't want to read could look at the pictures. Yes, that was kind of a joke ;).

Seriously though, our annual forum knife is a tradition that holds a lot of sentiment to me. Despite the heat, I look forward to the conversations and the debates every year - we've ended up with some pretty cool knives as a result. I'm sorry to see the tradition get retired.

Moving on though, I eagerly await the next tradition that I look forward to every year, Jack's KOTY thread. It's going to be a tough decision, I think...

Edit: Forgot to add one them pictures

Eric,
You're not alone - yes, i read both your posts - my knife left Seattle twice on Sunday, was progressing Monday, left Seattle again yesterday, and is still progressing today.
I even got an email from USPS this morning telling me it's supposed to arrive today!
I expect tomorrow it'll leave Seattle again tomorrow and with a little luck be here Saturday.

Hope your week is going well.
Erik

Duane sitflyer sitflyer suggested carving "Earl" into the handle of my knife and using it. Now that idea has some merit as "Earl" has a unique history in the Traditional Forum. Perhaps Earl II ?

If anyone should be complaining about "not getting my knife" it is Charlie Campagna; he has yet to receive a single 2021 BF Barlow! Sorry Charlie! Soon I hope (darn Canadian Customs).

Most of the rest of you should be getting them today, or would have if the USPS delivers normally (do they still do that?).

FEAR NOT! HAVE PATIENCE! ALL IS WELL IN PORCHENBURG!

I don't know what normal USPS delivery is. How can you NEVER get any mail on Saturdays? Not even a dreaded flyer?

Can you imagine if you had received two KNIVES in your tube??? 🍾 🕺

Although if that happened I guess the honest thing to do would have been to report that to . . . Barry?
That would have been something 😆
My inner Robin Hood says I would have donated it to one of the Porch members who missed out
ETA: or I could have a traded it for a nice Geo Metro 😵‍💫
