Oh my whens the next flight out I am in love.

Well, until I finally decide what I'm going to do with this knife, I've given it my "punch" of approval, which at least, makes it a "never flipper" knife.

Actually, the punch mark below the Blade Forums tang stamp doesn't look all that bad but it'll never be able to marketed as new/mint/unused.

Flipper-proofed!! Great idea!!

This was recommended earlier to ED and it intrigued me.
It's my new plan, I am going to carry my Forum Knife every day.
I'm going to put a thick layer of natural patina on the blade, spots and all.
I'm going to let it get scratched and marred up from keys and coins and work.
When it's looking well-used, and I've grown attached to it, I'll give it away to somebody.
That will mean more than giving somebody a brand new knife with inflated value, it will have sentimental value.
Who knows, maybe I'll do a pass-around before I gift it... That would be fun.
That's what the Forum Knife should be about!!!

Here it is on Day #1... You can watch the Totin' thread to see the progress.
Can we see it on day 1 of every month?

Mine arrived today. I’ll try to get some decent pics in a different light soon, the ones I just took don’t do it justice. Far and away the best fit and finish of any barlow I’ve received from GEC, and in my top 3 of overall build quality! I’d like to thank the Academy… but really, they had nothing to do with it, whoever they are.

Mail call! Finally ;)

Enough drooling over others (sorry for the slobber marks on your knives, ladies and gentlemen), I finally got to handle mine.

First impressions from a user who did not get in on any 86’s:

The size. Bigger than expected/anticipated, but carries very well. Fits well in hand. It’s a “big little knife” in my opinion. I absolutely love it. It’s small enough to fit in pocket, and/or carry with a companion blade. But, also big enough to be a standalone knife and the only one carried that day. I love the versatility.

The blade shape. Perfect. I love clips, and they did a very nice job with this one. I don’t have a “favorite” clip style, so this one is really very attractive to me as well as being useful/practical for my needs.

Color and scale material. I didn’t think I’d care for the color. I didn’t think I’d care for the slab material. But, I have to honestly say I’m really loving them both. I believe mine is slightly lighter on one side than it is the other, but to me that doesn’t matter. It’s so minute and trivial, it could never take away from the whole package in my eyes. I’m digging it. The sawcut is shallow, but still visible. I’ve seen deeper, I’ve seen smoother (on this run). I think this one fits right in the middle, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

Fit and finish. What can I say. I’ve had GEC’s that went right back. I have lockback GEC’s I’ve had to send in (there is not an “acceptable” amount of blade play on any knife in my opinion, regardless of brand). This one is dead on. Spot on. And locked in. No gaps, liners and scales mated perfectly, grinds even and gorgeous, flush in all three positions. Overall a very very nice knife.

And finally, certainly not least of all, a HUGE thank you to those that made it happen. You worked your tails off, dealt with hassles, issues, and complaints, and still managed to make it happen. There is no black eye on this years knife to me. I think it was executed perfectly, and distributed the same. Five hundred random folks, in five hundred different places is no easy task. I know what it’s like with all the proper equipment, accounts, and helping hands. I can’t imagine what these folks went through to get us our knives this year. THANK YOU! You are loved, respected, and highly regarded.

Pics or it didn’t happen:

ETA: not sure why the first pic looks lighter. No filters, sunlight in the same spot. The subsequent pictures are most accurate regarding color. But, I like that the sunlight let the color “pop” a little in the first pic, so we can see it better.

Popping open the tube of a freshly canned GEC is always exciting, and it has been a long time for me. A most pleasing knife that I will greatly enjoy the use of, and hang onto tightly! The contributions of all the forum cadre to have made the knife happen this year is deeply appreciated. Thank you folks.
