Hi Allain! I think Burt was not able to attend Blade show this year. I spoke with him earlier this month and he mentioned that he wasn't going to make it.

Nice photos, David. Glad to meet you. Thanks for doing this!

Crazily, I've seen more of the show here than there. I'm REALLY busy. In a good way.

BTW: Haley AND Adam both won the Peck and Hughes awards for best submissions from a JS and MS applicant. What a day for them, and the ABS.

Kyle Royer won the Moran award for one of his knives. I hope someone will fill in the details on this.

One more long day coming. Off to rest...

Please do, somebody! I have a knife in that group.. :)

Hats off to David and all for the great show pics. It was good meeting you David, if only for a short time.

My time at the show was very short - Fri. afternoon and Sat morning - but a little of Blade is far better than none and I enjoyed the heck out of my time there even if it did seem that I left 10 minutes after I arrived.

Crowds were good on Friday and very good Saturday morning.

Okay, on to some pics - fewer than I normally post, but all I could sneak in Sat morning before the doors opened and the aisles filled.

Dan Farr

Show above holding a superb camp knife with Dan's new Strong Shoulder design. Always thinking, always looking for innovative ways to improve performance. A hunter with this design claimed the Best Hunter award - congrats Dan!

That knife, along with the one I picked up, were off being photographed at the time I took this shot:

Joe Mason, John White

These two talented masters of their respctive crafts have teamed up before and will do so again.

orig.jpg

Joe had done some spectacular engraving on and equally spectacular Dogbone D-Guard bowie that John made. Unfortunately, it broke into a gazillion pieces:

But with a tube-and-a-half of Crazy Glue and three rubber bands, John was able to put it together and submit it for judging. Good thing, too, as it took the prize for Best Bowie. Look for a couple of pro shots of this piece in the near future. John also claimed the award for Best Damascus for the fantastic clamshell dagger that Buddy had posted up earlier. Hearty congrats to this supremely talented maker.

Brion Tomberlin

Brion was breaking my heart with this ivory fighter - the best knife he has made to date, IMHO, and he has made some very fine knives. One of 4 wishIcouldabought pieces that stood out to me in my short perusal time.

orig.jpg

Ron Newton

Ron has produced way more than his fair share of show stoppers over the years, but this off-the-hook Shootin'-Newton sword may be the pinnacle of that stellar group.

orig.jpg

My photo does NOTHING to communicate the absurd awesomeness of this piece, and neither would any quick description. This piece deserves a series of pro photos AND a setailoed article about its construction. It's a story worth teling - and more importantly - worth preserving.

Roger Massey

Roger's super-clean and largely unembelished pieces presented some compelling choices indeed. I might have picked the sheep horn fighter and matching hunter as a set.

Kevin Cashen

orig.jpg

The knifemaker's knifemaker, Kevin is shown here holding a terrific damascus chef's knife. If only my cooking skills were anywhere worthy of such a fine piece.

J.W. Randall

orig.jpg

Though not my usual style of knives, I was absolutely captivated by that matched set of folder and boot knife in stunning pearl.

Ed Caffrey

Very impressive table, but I only caught these two, which had been caught in a more meaningful way before I got there.

orig.jpg

Brian Thie

orig.jpg

Some truly dazzling damascus on that fighter - I could have watched it shimmer all day.

orig.jpg

Steve Dunn

orig.jpg

On the phone with Peter Gill, no doubt hatching a new plot for global domination. Or some such. I was too distracted by the dazzling bowies and fighters to evesdrop for very long.

orig.jpg

John Perry

orig.jpg

Shown above delivering a stunning BIG bowie to my friend and fellow enthusiast, Jon Klein. Really an impressive piece.

orig.jpg

Bruce Barnett

orig.jpg

I was delighted for Bruce that he passed his JS test. I would have been more delighted had I been able to pick up the ivory fighter shown on the bottom-right below. Hyper clean, great lines, terrific feel and beautiful ivory.

orig.jpg

Rodrigo Sfreddo

orig.jpg

A maker who routinely taxes with global supply of superlatives, Rodrigo did not disappoint. This integral was perhaps his most "basic" knife at the show, and it was simply stunning.

Oh, you sneaky bastid Rog!!!!

You made it to the show!!!! Sweet!

Great pictures throughout this entire thread, guys... makes me think I need to try and reconsider my hermitage for next year.

Mike Ruth

A very nice line-up, of which this ivory and damscus skinner is the one I would have grabbed:

orig.jpg

Michael Ruth Jr.

... managed to hide from my camera, but this SPECTACULAR hunting sword didn't. You should see the Fisk-like damascus on this one. Wow.

orig.jpg

Adam and Haley DesRosiers

orig.jpg

Great knives, great people. Shown above holding their matced set of awards - the Peck and Hughes, for best knife submitted by a successful Journeyman and Master Smith applicant. Well done both!

I wish I had more knives to show, but they were gone fast. The one I wanted most was tucked on Haley's belt - the damscus integral shown in the photo that her ivory piece rests on below. But it's her personal knife and she wasn't parting with it.

David Broadwell, Paul Long

orig.jpg

Does anyone need a kidney? 'Cause I need that middle fighter BADLY!

orig.jpg

It was great chatting with both these guys.

And that's all I got folks.

Thanks for the awesome pics and commentary Roger, looks like you used your limited time there extremely well!
