Hats off to David and all for the great show pics. It was good meeting you David, if only for a short time.
My time at the show was very short - Fri. afternoon and Sat morning - but a little of Blade is far better than none and I enjoyed the heck out of my time there even if it did seem that I left 10 minutes after I arrived.
Crowds were good on Friday and very good Saturday morning.
Okay, on to some pics - fewer than I normally post, but all I could sneak in Sat morning before the doors opened and the aisles filled.
Dan Farr
Show above holding a superb camp knife with Dan's new Strong Shoulder design. Always thinking, always looking for innovative ways to improve performance. A hunter with this design claimed the
Best Hunter award - congrats Dan!
That knife, along with the one I picked up, were off being photographed at the time I took this shot:
Joe Mason, John White
These two talented masters of their respctive crafts have teamed up before and will do so again.
Joe had done some spectacular engraving on and equally spectacular Dogbone D-Guard bowie that John made. Unfortunately, it broke into a gazillion pieces:
But with a tube-and-a-half of Crazy Glue and three rubber bands, John was able to put it together and submit it for judging. Good thing, too, as it took the prize for
Best Bowie. Look for a couple of pro shots of this piece in the near future. John also claimed the award for
Best Damascus for the fantastic clamshell dagger that Buddy had posted up earlier. Hearty congrats to this supremely talented maker.
Brion Tomberlin
Brion was breaking my heart with this ivory fighter - the best knife he has made to date, IMHO, and he has made some very fine knives. One of 4 wishIcouldabought pieces that stood out to me in my short perusal time.
Ron Newton
Ron has produced way more than his fair share of show stoppers over the years, but this off-the-hook Shootin'-Newton
sword may be the pinnacle of that stellar group.
My photo does NOTHING to communicate the absurd awesomeness of this piece, and neither would any quick description. This piece deserves a series of pro photos AND a setailoed article about its construction. It's a story worth teling - and more importantly - worth preserving.
Roger Massey
Roger's super-clean and largely unembelished pieces presented some compelling choices indeed. I might have picked the sheep horn fighter and matching hunter as a set.
