Charlie,

In the past you have given specific instructions
Only take the poll only if you intend to buy
Does this still hold?

thanks for all the work

As an old guy, but a "newbie" to BF, I'm really enjoying everyone discussing the intricacies of slipjoints, just like I recall my friends and I doing in the hills of California so may decades ago! What fun! It is amazing how new technology (the Internet) is expanding the use of very old technology (our old, traditional knives). Anyway, I'll be thrilled to own either of these two choices, but the CSC pattern seems unusual and appealing to me.

I can try. It's a shadow pattern based loosely on their serpentine stock knife. Although shadow pattern stock knives do exist, they aren't particularly common. The two blades operate on a single spring which makes the knife thinner than a 3-blade. Typically a 2-blade would have a spey secondary. The combination of a clip and sheepfoot is uncommon. But many, including myself, prefer a straight edge blade instead of a spey and there aren't many of those around. Now there are a handful of 2-blade stock knives with a similar combination of blades. But it's not nearly as common as clip blade and spey blade. And I can't think of any at all that are shadow patterns.

I have a hard time understanding why 1-blade knives are so popular on the forum. I suspect it might have something to do with people being familiar with modern tactical-type folders which are typically 1-blade knives. Now I do like single blade knives for some jobs, but I prefer a multi-blade for regular everyday use. In my opinion, the 1-blade traditional knives are the simplest and have the least amount of engineering. If you're making your 1st knife, you'd make a 1-blade. To me, it seems there is a lot more utility in a knife with at least two different types of blades like a clip blade and a sheepfoot (the proposal from CSC). A clip blade and spey blade both have belly. One just isn't as pointy. A clip blade and sheepfoot is not as redundant.

For me, the forum knife is particularly interesting because it's an opportunity to come up with something that is not already readily available. The knife proposed by CSC is the most interesting to me for this reason. Just putting the Bladeforums stamp on a pattern that is readily available is not particularly interesting to me.

Thin in the pocket, but with a full size handle and with the two most useful blades you will ever find.

Thank you gentlemen. I really appreciate the insight and explanation. I too do like a thin in the pocket with full size handle, but, to me this CSC is aesthetically unappealing. INHO, there is no wow factor. Again, in my view, putting the BF stamp on something it should be deserving of it both functionally and aesthetically. In the end it doesn't matter since I will get whichever wins, I was just trying to understand the overwhelming number of you voting for this model..

Canal Street's proposal has no bolsters (Barehead), and fancy wood handles.
Option: We can have a different shield if we choose this knife.

Charlie,Thank you again for shepherding our 2015 traditional knife project along as you do. Once again great choices, either of which I'ed carry.
That said, I voted for the Canal Street design. I like the ern or bomb-like shield shown.

I'll try and answer this. If Charlie disagrees I'll edit.

Common sense and fair play tells me that if you think you might buy one or the other of these, please vote. If at the time of order you don't have the funds, don't worry about it. A vote here doesn't lock you into the purchase.

If you have no interest in and no intention of buying the Traditional Forum knife, please don't vote.

My vote went to the CSC. Something about that knife just looks right to me, I can see it 20 yrs down the road all beat up and worn:) Thanks Charlie and all for keeping this moving along! Both are great choices

The GEC design looks like the secondary blade would be uncomfortable to use with the large clip blade protruding as it does. Square bolsters on a 4” frame isn't very pocket friendly. The proposed jigging in straight lines isn't the kind I prefer.

The CSC has rounded ends, the secondary blade is sunk nicely for more comfort in use. The shape of the clip looks like it won't poke out and be uncomfortable when using the secondary blade. Overall the pattern is much less common than the GEC. It is also probably lighter. It is certainly more pocket friendly. From looking at both designs the CSC looks like it would more comfortable in the hand when using either blade.

Overall I think the CSC trumps the GEC at much every level for me. On a smaller frame I might choose the GEC because things would be different, but at 4” closed the CSC looks superior.

Voted GEC; I'd rather have jigged bone vs wood. Also long nail nick and swedge on GEC. And uncommon 440c on a GEC. But either design is a winner; I'm in regardless.

Voted GEC. Like bone on slippies, and not so much wood. A bone shadow with those big pivots would be cool though.

I rather like the spey blade, but a wharncliffe would be nice too. ;)

Thanks, Charlie and company for all the work yet again.

Nice, I've been away for three weeks on vacation, but it's going the right way so far :)

If I buy 3 knives, do I get 3 votes? [emoji12]

I voted for Canal Street Cutlery's proposal. Many thanks to both Canal Street and Great Eastern for their proposals... and a big thanks to Charlie for heading this up. With Charlie at the helm, we knew this would be a win-win.

Wish I could put the GEC clip blade on the CSC. Both cool looking knives. This is a more difficult decision than I expected. Can we just have two this year?

I really had to think about this one, I suggested a GEC half-stockman on the 81 frame in an earlier thread, and though this model is great, I found the CSC just edged it out. I hope we get to choose the type of wood if CSC wins, a nice uniform dark ebony would be pretty cool.
