Blades & Bourbon

Eagle Rare is good stuff... Too bad it suffers from Buffalo Trace Allotment. My favorite BT (aside from Pappy 20yr and maybe Colonel EH Taylor ""Tornado") is Rock Hill Farms - rarely found these days, and only at grossly inflated prices (at least in my area); but it was my introduction to bourbon, and I love the stuff (even if I won't pay the current prices).

Opened a bottle of Eagle Rare 10 today.

I've got 7 bottles of the stuff. 6 after I kill this one. Bought up all of the bottles on display one day at my LLS for just around $35@.

Haven't seen any more there since.

It was a bargain IMO and it's delicious to boot. Pics to follow. :)
Bad karma follows those that hoard bourbon :) Look Out

I'd hardly call buying an extra 6 bottles of Eagle Rare 10 "hoarding." 6-10 cases maybe but 6 bottles? Really?

FWIW, I've been holding off drinking them because they are so hard to find in my area. However, I did see another 3 bottles at my LLS (at $45 instead of $35) recently but I didn't buy any more because I still have the 6 bottles in reserve but will try to buy at least 3 more when I get down to just 3 left.

If I didn't have so much other liquor to drink, I could kill those 6 bottles no time flat! Heck, the bottle I opened just lack week is already below 1/2 full.

LOL! ;)

Anyway, here's a quick pic of the 6 pack of Eagle Rare 10 w/what's left of the 7th bottle along w/the Gen 6 Hinderer XM16-3.5 Recurve that I just bought on top of another pour. :)

6 bottles of ER ? Not hoarding ! Sarge, in FL you can’t find one for less than $65 or $70…
At $45, I’d say, don’t wait, buy it while they are available !

In that case, I may buy a few more bottles, if they're still there, when I drive by my LLS again.

FWIW, I actually "discovered" Eagle Rare 10 at my local Safeway. It was the only bourbon that I was drinking until I decided to widen my horizons and went crazy buying a lot of much more expensive bourbons.

I've drunk down most of my bourbon purchases and haven't bought much ekse recently but I am still hanging on to some really expensive/hard to find bottles of Weller, Blanton, Michter's 10, Taylor and Bookers that I haven't wanted to touch.

I also like Old Forester 1920, regular Michter's, McKenna 10, which are all pretty easy to find hereabouts but, if I had to choose only 1 bourbon to drink, I'd be happy just drink Eagle Rare 10 from now on.

So, if I could actually buy cases of it to HOARD, I almost certainly would. LOL! ;)

BTW, I went even MORE crazy expanding my scotch collection and I've been gradually drinking that down too.

Spent a lot of $ doing this BUT it was worth it because it gave me a lot of CLARITY about which bourbons and scotch I like best and will allow me to be a lot more focused and selective buying these whiskeys going forward.

PS to POCEH KOCEB POCEH KOCEB : I'm still holding on to that bottle of Knob Creek 12 too.

I’m glad you liked ER, top quality BT bourbon !
Another 10 yo one you may enjoy just as the ER is Henry McKena 10 years old.
I probably like it better than Eagle Rare as much as heretic this may sound…
It’s made by Heaven Hill distillery, another major player among the classics, old school Bourbon players, I find it simply delicious!

Already mentioned McKenna 10 above, which is among the 3-4 still "affordable" and "available" bourbons that I like most, but I still like ER10 better.

Just a matter of personal taste. ;)

Affordable, maybe in your area man…
Come down here in FL, last time I stack up on McKena, I paid $65 per bottle…
‘Oh, yes, I see, you mentioned it, along with OF 1920, all good stuff…
‘The thing with Old Forester is that everything that comes from Brown-Forman distilery, even the tin cap $23 Old Forester line is so good !
I would never shay away from “cheap” bourbon, coming from old, reputable distillery…

Well, at least SOMETHING is more affordable in CA than in FL. LOL! ;)

Gas is currently over $6/gal in my area. What's it costing where you are?

I cannot stand McKenna. Their product is so inconsistent, I've had more crap bottles than good. They no longer get my money.

Sorry to hear this but you are actually correct - their quality really fluctuate between releases.
‘I’m fortunate to get my bottles (I stashed 3or4) from a good local shop that knows what he’s buying and maybe that’s why I never got to a bad bottle.
‘The good thing is - they are so many other good bourbons you can choose from.
‘I like McKena but actually my preferred Heaven Hill products are the BIB and Elijah Craig, upper lines…I’m also enjoying the Evan Williams 8yo Single Barrel Vintage. It is probably the best quality Bourbon for the money with $23 for a bottle… It even beats one of my all time favorites - Knob Creek 9yo, 100 proof…

FWIW, I've purchased and have already drank all of the brands/bottles pictured/mentioned above.

The only bourbon that I've purchased more than once are the Eagle Rare 10, Michter's US1, McKenna 10 and Old Forester Prohibition 1920. So, these are going to be my standards from now on or at least until they become scarce and/or too expensive.

Haven't drank enough McKenna to notice any differences but, if I do, the others will be sufficient to satisfy my taste for bourbon.
