Blades & Bourbon

Don't know if it's any good or not but just heard about this and, since I'm a fan, I just had to buy a couple bottles. :)

The "Gold Bar" was named the "official" whiskey of the SF 49ers in 2019 and they even have a whiskey bar at Levi Stadium. The "Original" version of this bourbon won a Double Gold Medal at the 2016 SF World Spirits Competition in 2016.

This is a special edition which commemorates "The Catch" that Dwight Clark made which cinched the Niners' win over the Cowboys in the 1982 NFL NFC Championship game and which gave the Niners the opportunity to win the 1st of its 5 Superbowls. :)

Out of stock at the distillery but available at a couple places in The City (that's San Francisco). So, I drove into town (about 150 miles RT) to pick these up after I ordered them online.

Doesn't look like I needed to rush, since they had a whole display case full of the stuff, but some people online are complaining that they can't find/buy any.

If you're interested, you can find more info about it here: The Catch - 49ers Edition

BTW, while it looks like a box, the "gold bar" is actually the bottle. They won a prize for designing the bottle in this way in 2016 too.

This always had my interest but never figured out if it’s a really bourbon or just some Scotch-like blend…
‘Love the package, looks very effective…:thumbsup:
‘BTW top shelf, right, in the background, I see a bottle of Smoke Wagon, excellent pour, highly recommended if you didn’t try it

It's "really" bourbon but I haven't tried it yet. It's listed as 88% corn, 9% rye and 3% barley which is a mash that I should like.

I bought them as "collector" items that are currently serving as bookends on each side of my signed Montana football. Pic to follow.

Opening either would reduce their value but I could buy another to drink, which is what I'll probably do, if/when I drive into The City again.

As for "Smoke Wagon," I'll put it on the list but I'm really not looking for any new bourbons to try right now.

BTW, the way I found out that the Gold Bar was not boxed was when I put the bag I was carrying them in down too hard on a tile surface.. Really glad they made the bottles very strudy or it could have been a very expensive mess. LOL! ;)

At $50 I would get another one to try.

It's $55 plus tax or about $59.74/bottle.

I'm not going to make another "special" trip to buy another bottle because it costs me about $60 in gas and tolls just to drive to/from The City.

That makes the actual cost of the 2 bottles that I bought already $90 each!

Chances are it will be sold out before I get back into The City again but it's on my "to do" list if/when I drive back into town again for another reason.

Interesting, online it looks like it's $50.

You are local Sgt, can’t they ship it to your address ?

Min $200+ for free shipping.

Don't know what they'd charge for 1 bottle but whatever it is I'd rather not pay it because it just increases the total cost for a bottle.

I don't want another bottle of it that badly.

But, if I'm going into town for another reason, that's another matter.

It's $55. Click on this link: Gold Bar - "The Catch"

And plus tax, it's $60. And plus shipping or travel costs to buy another bottle.

It's not that I don't have the $.

It's that I already bought 2 and already paid an extra $60 in gas/tolls to get them. I just don't want to buy another bottle that badly, especially since I have SO MUCH other bourbon (and scotch) on hand that I haven't even opened yet.

It's just not that important to me.

So Maker's Mark 46 is still new to me. I know, I'm behind the times here. If you missed my last post, I like it quite a bit. I tried pairing it with a Cohiba Red but that wasn't as good as I had hoped. Each was better on its own than they were together. In the name of science (or something), I decided to try it tonight with a Cohiba Blue.

This was much better. It wasn't a match made in heaven or anything but they worked together. (Full disclosure: It's windy and just a hair above freezing here; maybe twenty degrees colder than when I tried it with the Red. Still, this is definitely a better pairing.)
