Blades & Bourbon

Almost F-Rye-Day...

We almost finished the bottle last night, this is my neighbor's old Auto Triage, he is a lineman specialist,
used this knife all over the country, in storms, mud, snow and dust. It saved few lives by breaking auto windows and cutting some seatbelts.
Besides the messed up look, the knife is in very good shape, fully functional, microscopic blade play, never replaced any springs.
Benchmades are solid performers when you got the right model, I think.

This was my basement stash back in the good ole days before all the marketing sent everything to insane levels. I was paying $18 for Old Weller 750's. I also enjoyed drinking every single bottle in there! I will probably never see most of these bottles again but glad I had them. No FXcking way I am paying today's prices!!!

Is your basement for rent? ;)

Just opened the 2nd of 2 bottles of the Bourbon War - Pinhook Vertical Series - 7 (out of 12) years that was bottled at 115 proof & released last fall pictured with my Olamic Wayfarer 247 that I recently offered for sale but apparently no one wants to buy. 🤷‍♂️

A strong hit of the aroma of acetone at the top that overwhelms the glass and ar 115 proof its very "hot" and I couldn't taste much. I had to smooth it out w/some water 2:1 (bourbon:water; ~ 76 proof) which turns the smell of acetone into butterscotch and makes it much more drinkable for me.

It's been too long to remember how it compares w/the 4, 5, & 6 that are stored away (w/the extra bottle of 7) but now might be a good time to open them to see how they compare side-to-side and to decide whether I want to continuing buying more of the series. We'll see . . .

Oh Sarge, you've opened it !!! I envy you ! (in a good way, I'm glad you found one...)
I'm still trying to get a bottle of the 7yo so I can line it up to my others - 4,5 and 6 yo...

So is rye allowed in this thread? I've been splitting off my pictures of knives and scotch to the general beverage thread... If any kind of whiskey counts, I need to know!

Well this is a bourbon thread & rye is a close cousin but, even so, there are few mentions of rye here.

Scotch on the other hand is no relation & IMO should remain relegated to other generic booze threads or to a scotch thread of its own.

BTW, I've got a lot of scotch too (way more than bourbon) but I don't think I've ever posted a pic of any of my scotch collection here.

Never thought about it but I wouldn't mind at all... There is rye in most bourbons, so why not. I enjoy Rye as much as I like Bourbon and Scotch
I'd love to see the preferred Rye of whoever is posting here.

Can't get too excited about bourbon after reading a story about a fungus that thrives on alcohol and lives in the neighborhoods around aging warehouses. If this seems interesting to you, search for Baudoinia.

I've always liked rye but it always seems to take a back seat to scotch and bourbon. For instance, my liquor cabinet currently contains five different bourbons, seven different scotches, and only one rye. It's this one, which from the picture date I probably haven't touched in a couple of months. 😮

Another thing is differentiating rye from stuff like high-rye bourbons or Canadian whiskeys with a small amount of rye. As far as straight rye, what are your top two or three recommendations?
