Blades & Bourbon

This is cross posted from elsewhere on BF.

----------------------------------------------

Haven't drunk or eaten any yet but before I had menudo for lunch I bought 2 bottles each of Sabbatical Staight Bourbon & their Table Blend Whiskey and got 11# (5kg) of asparagus included for FREE!!!

Sabattical is a local distillery near me [that I've mentioned here before]that makes some very good whiskey and also a very good gin. I like to support local businesses when I can.

One of the owners of Sabbatical is the son of one of the owners of Victoria Farms which mainly grows blueberries but just started growing/selling asparagus again this year as well.

This is the pretty much the last of this year's asparagus crop. Going to make a lot of asparagus soup and some asparagus risotto with the lot.

Here's a link to the Sabbatical website, if you're interested: https://www.drinksabbatical.com/

6 bottles of Eagle Rare 10 and am NOT touching them because they're asking $80/bottle for it at local liquor stores near me.
You're lucky to have it in the store for $80... Regular ER around my place, West Coast of FL, goes for about $70.
I just gave away one of those to a close friend of mine that retired from the PD. I still got 3 more 😂
We still have fairly available BT, price is below $30, usually $24 in ABC. Good stuff
The Sabbatical Bourbon looks good, little bit on the expensive end for me, but will be happy to try it one day.

I bought those 6 bottles of Eagle Rare for around $40 each. Told myself not to open any of them until I could buy more at that price.

Guess I'm going to be sitting on them for quite a while but Buffalo Trace is an acceptable (to me) substitute at $30/bottle.

Re; Sabbatica the price isn't all that high for the quality of the whiskey, especially considering that its a small volume distiller operating on what I assume are very thin margins.

Ain't drinking any until I can buy more for less than $50/bottle. 🤷‍♂️

In the meantime, I'm drinking Buffalo Trace for $30/bottle and I'm fine with that.

I've got 6 bottles of Buffalo Trace sittingin the wine rack as well. ;)

thats nuts. I've got a 1.75 of eagle rare I've been holding onto just because its the only time I've seen in it in that size.
the 750mL are currently $42 around here, when they are in stock. thats up from $33 just a few years ago.
Buffalo Trace is $28, again, when it is in stock

whiskey with asparagus is a new one to me

I wish I had the discipline to hold bottles. I bought a bottle of Eagle Rare recently and opened it the same day. That said, I never have more than 2 or 3 bottles (total, all varieties) on hand at any time. Buy, drink, replenish.

I wish I had the discipline to hold bottles.

When it's something you know you like, get two bottles instead of one. Enjoy one for now and set the other aside. Make a dedicated place to store a few unopened bottles. Don't take anything from that place until it feels full. Then, only take out one at a time and only when you're ready with a replacement.

This might seem a little peculiar but over time, this ends up being a wonderful gift for your future self. Then when your time is up, it can be a wonderful gift to someone else. Just remember to update your will from time to time. 😜

Elijah Craig, enjoying the morning after finishing my last night at the old job, officially ending the first chapter in this new journey of my life post 40 yrs old. It all started with becoming a dad and switching from construction to factory work for the stability. Then getting laid off in 2020 due to covid, when I went back to school with my GI Bill monies in Jan. 2021 (before it expired this year), and started a new job in Feb. 2022 while still taking a full course load. FInally taking my last class over winter, (1/13/23 I took my final-final), and in March while actually trying to help my step son find work, I found a new job for myself.
At a well worn and high mileage 43 years old, this past Tuesday, a 1997 high school drop out who struggled with the law, battled addiction and depression, survived 11b Infantry as well as a failed attempt at "giving up" and becoming just another statistic (22-a-day), I graduated "with highest honors", and while working this past year +, gaining invaluable experience in one job, I close that chapter to start anew yet again on Monday, ever pushing forward and driving on...

And truly, unbeknownst to you all, I truly appreciate this forum and it's great, (and even the not so great), members for being a part of my journey these past few years as I've eliminated most of my former social life associates, like litterally 99% of them, but still having a place to "be social" in a passion we all share. Even if I don't know any of you personally, I can sincerely say, I f'n love y'all!

Now time to enjoy my upcoming 3 day weekend before the new chapter begins.
