Blades & Bourbon

Now I know why I can never find it. Im not even a big Bourbon drinker but sure would like to try it with all the Hype.

Next time leave 1 bottle on the shelf for others!

Do you live in/near Livermore? If not, it won't matter to you but FWIW the clerk at the 1st store said he'll be getting more in next wk.

Also, FYI, the limited availability of Eagle Rare and other popular brands is not due to lack of stock.

It's due to distributors who limit how much a retailer can buy at one time and, even then, they make the retailer buy a lot of other stuff that they don't really want in order to get some of the popular products.

So, the limited availability of certain bourbons is based on distributors who want to increase demand and the price that they can charge for them.

Wild Turkey 101 is my go-to since the 1970's. Tried dozens of other bourbons since then, many more expensive, but this is still my favourite. (The closer glass has Jameson Irish Whisky, for my wife. I've always preferred Bourbon and Scotch.)

Little update from couple of Fridays back:

Nice, usually available bottles, accept maybe the McKena...

This was last weekend, some serious hitters in the face of the 16yo Calumet Farms, The Starlight Cigar Batch, Larceny Barrel proof and the nice Elijah Craig Private barrel.
The Starlight was the most expensive but the Amburana finish, additional to the other 3 finishes, was worth every penny IMO, never tried such unique and pleasant taste...

We recognized the much loved Independence Day yesterday, and I'm impressed again by the JD Single Barrel Select !
Interestingly, with this particular impression, I find two completely different tastes when have it with ice,
compared to when I just put little chilled water in it. Love the later !

After is self-explanatory, I think... 🤣

Now that balvenie I can get down with. Got burnt out on whiskey/bourbon so I moved on to scotch although recently I’ve really been enjoying some rye whiskey.

That is a good pour. I like my bourbon freezer cold. I generally have it on the rocks, literally. Freezer chilled rock cubes. Does not thin it down but still chills it.
I will try the chilled water approach

RLB0414 RLB0414 Yes, of course you can do it, after all, eveyone have different taste. About the ice, from my long forgotten years being a bartender,
I remember the same principle - a large ice cube have less surface and primarily chills the drink, instead of deluding it.
I recently came across a box that makes 8 2"X2" completely clear ice cubes that was sub$50 I think, most similar icemakers are usually much more.
It works fine and the cubes are really disappearing in the drink, that clear they get. Another alternative are just the normal silicone 8 cube forms and they work fine too.
My only thing with much ice in my drink is that it gives you few good sips and after this the drink is already thinner... When you mix water and alcohol, it releases heat,
so the bunch of ice cubes are releasing faster the water and this is what I don't like much... However, I also like Scotch chilled straight from the freezer 🤩

I try to keep it simple. When getting drunk my go to is Johnny black on the rocks. I don’t mind it getting diluted cause I’m just putting em down. When enjoying a high end scotch for the flavor it can only be done neat. Putting anything in a 15-20+ year old beverage is the ultimate party sin in my opinion. But to each their own as long as it’s your bottle and not mine 😉

Understand. I never acquired a taste for scotch. Tastes like kerosene to me

🤣 😂 😂... It's not that bad... I like Scotch but prefer Bourbon.
If you're new to Scotch, or you want to try it, I'd go with something like the 12yo Glenfiddich or 15yo Deward's.
They are relatively low ABV and on the sweeter side, will be good if you keep them in the fridge or freezer, done it, leave it for 5min in the glass and you'll enjoy it.
Another inexpensive alternative that I absolutely love is Monkey Shoulder... 😍
It's a blend of three single malts of really good quality - one is Balvenie, one of the few distilleries, that doesn't source anything for their Scotch,
they use all own resources of grain, water, and processing, very clean and top quality juice. Balvenie is about 30% of the volume of Monkey shoulder,
the other two are Glenfiddich and Kininvie. Very pleasant drink IMO, sub $40, usually $30-$35 range, readily available, with just 40% ABV,
it'll be perfects just chilled with almost no ice or on the rock cubes as you like it.

Balvenie has become one of my go to’s! Love it. I’ve drank plenty of bourbon and whiskeys over the years and won’t turn em down but since moving on to scotch I rarely go back. One thing I like about scotch is there seems to be a big variation in the flavor profile, so everyone is a little to a lot different from the next. I’m still buying japanese whiskey and rye whiskey though. Both also have very differing flavor profiles.

mitchnola mitchnola ---> Hibiki 12 and Yamazaki 12 are my absolutely favorite Japanese Whiskies and actually i tried others and didn't fit my taste..
My absolutely favorite is the Hibiki 12 yo, unfortunately it cannot be found anywhere because they sold out the whole 12 yo batch years ago and now the sell only Hibiki without age statement or 24yo.
Also love Johnnie Walker, particularly I'm fond to the Black, Green and Swing, they are great blends

Thanks, I’ll make a point to give em a try. Looks like I’d have a good time pouring from your bar!

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check some local establishments and sample a couple. Who knows, getting older might have changed my taste buds
