blue S90V Military

Classic doubbal standard "quit whining about flippers/collectors".. but it is ok to whine about BBS! BBS fronted the $134,980.00 to have this knife made and is holding the same margin as the flippers/collectors EXPECT on the secondary market. every one wants BBS to make 10% so the flippers/collectors can have there 100%!!

OK I get it..due to a small percentage of people that like to buy then later sell a couple knives(such a crime against humanity:rolleyes:) I get to expect a crap, get lost, don't bother us returns/refunds policy, and a price that is full MSRP..

No thanks, I will wait for the CruWear Military to get here..real dealers with much friendlier policies and most importantly way better price,.

6 months or a year down the road is one thing. Posting for sale on the secondary market while still in transit from the dealer is another thing,

Just a guess but in my opinion the Dealer mass release to the internet of the left over’s without processing people on the “back Up List” incident recently was probably a direct result of :

1. Not having enough margin built in to the price to cover labor cost to manage the “back Up List”.
2. Disgust at watching the items selling on the secondary for $300 + while you are busting your ass to ship them out for a 10-15% profit.... but wait as a dealer i also need to pay my overhead out of that 10-15% profit...

I think I will choose to wait for another knife.I feel that I am not getting the bang for the buck of other Spyderco sprints that I have purchased over the years. If I don't purchase sprints by the time the dealer(s) sell out, then I will just pass on the release.I don't chase sprints on the secondary market. There will be other chances to acquire what my heart desires down the road, or around the next turn.Smurf blue G10 would not be my fist choice of color to pay a premium versus other options. The steel is cool, but I think I will have other chances such as a possible K390 or 110V sprint at some point down the road.I may want the knife, but it's not a necessity.I don't feel I am getting the historical value I have come to cherish at the price point it is being offered at the exclusive dealer.I have no problems with this dealer or what price point they retail their Exclusive at.To each their own and it is up to the individual as to how much they are willing to pay for a particular item whether it is purchased from a dealer or on the secondary market.I collect knifes and use them as tools.I don't purchase them ever planning to make a future profit.

peace,

Not sure where you are getting there is a ton of hate. The price Bento put these at is just a shock to some people. Not everyone can just shell out $280.00 dollars for a knife.

To some the controversy is that for the premium upgrade in steel, Spyderco's MSRP did not change, so alot of people probably figure it did not cost Spyderco extra to manufacture these. But Bento priced them higher as if they did cost more.

As far as BBS pricing these to try and negate flipping. I seriously doubt that was their first thought. If BBS put them at $300 and eventually sold out, they would be flipped for even more. That is how collectible/limited stuff works. Just look at the Tilt, 0777, ect from Kershaw and Zero Tolerance. They sell for double, even triple what they originally sold for.

Even though I thought the price was high, I still bought one.

Can I afford it? Easily. Will I be buying it and support BBS? No way. I've got plenty Spydercos with great steels from other dealers to hold me over.

Cruwear Millie in G10 for $140.

Not to mention cheaper :p The most recent CF Millie was $180. The first was $130. I have a S110v Native5 in CF on preorder for $190.

Something about that blue G10 that adds to the cost :barf:

By the time the last of the new-from-dealer S90V/CF Militarys were selling the street prices were in the $270 range - I know, I was there. I found one for $240 and thought the dealer had done me a huge favor.

It is rare to see Sprints go anywhere but up in price. Especially once they sell out, and are on the secondary market only.

To be fair, I am pretty sure this is Bento's inflation not Spyderco's. All other Para 2 sprints were obtainable for around $130, other than perhaps the S90V one.. Then Bento gets one and puts it $40 dollars higher. S90V is worth it to me in the Military platform.

I don’t understand the controversy on this

Military Blue S90V MSRP: $269.95
Military Standard with DLC MSRP: $269.95

I'm a fervent libertarian but you don't have to be there to ask what the heck this is all about. A dealer sells for MSRP and is castigated. Friends of Sal's sell for over MSRP, but that's ok? By the way, folks, do you know that Spyderco used to have an aggressive minimum sales price policy that attempted to enforce MSRP on all of us? I was there...were you?

Just for clarity, though, in this case, they WEREN'T sold out at that time - this was the latter part of when they were still available factory new from dealers.

Some of the points I am making are:

1. Spyderco fans expect dealers to operate on a 10-15% margin and stay in business.
2. How many on line dealers that operate on a 10-15% margin for spyderco sprints/ exclusive still take preorders? CS stopped last year KW currently is not on their 2 upcoming knifes.
3. I think we are seeing a change in the Spyderco sprint / exclusive markets, at the dealer level.

I was not around at that time. I just put money in Bento's pocket. Their price was not too high for me, just higher than what most were expecting I think? At the end of the day, it is BBS's decision, and I am pretty confident they will sell out ;).

Geesh.

:D  Sorry, did not mean to be unloading at you! :D But I admit it sorta reads that way... :o

No, no, no :D. I think I may have misread your post initially. I though that they were selling for $30 dollars more on the secondary market, while still available for cheaper from the dealer. Thus the "Geesh".

Although I have seen the above situation happen.

I think it really depends on the particular knife and how transparent the manufacturer and dealers are.I will use the ZT 0560cbcf as an example of the secondary market. Time will tell..I think this particular sprint is an exclusive and it may be possible for the exclusive dealer to request another run if this is a popular sprint(exclusive) .The only other place you will be able to theoretically get this knife is the secondary market. That is not always true as I remember many dealers that claimed to have an exclusive earth brown Para 2 S35VN? We will find out at some point in time is my best guess.......

Here's one for you: the ParaMilitary CPM-D2 sprint, which should have sold out immediately, not only did not sell out but was disco'd by Spyderco at a deep discount and is still, today - years later - available from at least one dealer. It is hard to predict, although the general trend is pretty clear. :o

What trend is "clear"? I had a original Para several years ago and never really liked it. Wound selling it at IMO The Para 2 is a much better knife and is going to sell out very quickly..especially the sprint runs and exclusives..

I honestly don't care about the price. Great big blue knife in s90v! I will be ordering a smurf para again and NOT getting rid of it like the old ones as soon as they are available again.
