Bm 710 m4??

FWIW, I tried to order a 2nd one yesterday but was told that all 300 are now spoken for.

They did offer to put me on a waiting list--?? Does that mean there will be another batch, or is that maybe in case anyone else cancels?

Probably if someone cancels. There was a fair bit of time involved in the pre-order and the specs of the knife changed a bit (handle material, coating), so some cancel.

I hope they ship soon I am looking forward to this one.

They already have. Check your e-mail for your UPS tracking info. That's how I found out mine is on the way.

Of course, there's no telling if they got all 300 shipped in one day. That's a bigger job than it sounds. Joe

yeah mine probably hasn't I know mine was one of the last of the batch. I will give roger a call in a few days if I haven't heard from them.

My order (not sure if I'll get 1 or 2 depends on how they shipped them) is on the UPS truck for delivery. Unfortunately UPS only seems to deliver after 6 PM, so I'll be waiting all day....

FWIW, I did not get an email, but I called Knifeworks and it had shipped yesterday. Dana gave me the UPS number (thanks!). It's set to arrive Friday.

I canceled my reservation for two of them when Dana started calling about payment just because my knife interests and needs had changed a bit since I placed my reservation. I was really wanting the Micarta scales when they were first announced anyway.

That was not knowing the blade would be coated. Now that I see it is coated I'm delighted that I cancelled afterall. I'm just not interested in many coated blades anymore. Heck, I'm weary of bead blast already although that is not a deal breaker for me as of yet.

I would have been disappointed to receive $300 worth of coated blades when it wasn't mentioned in advance.

Just noticed that gpknives.com is carrying a similar run of 300 cpm-m4 Benchmade Osbourne Gauchos as knifeworks.com.

However, the ones at GP knives are all 1/2 serrated.

Wonder if that means there will also be a run of (300?) 1/2 serrated M4-710s from someone?

Knifecenter had some of the M4 Gauchos too. So far I haven't seen any other 710's, though it wouldn't surprise me. They are also using the M4 on the Ti Lum coming out soon. I like Ti framelocks so I'm going to see about getting one of those too.

I'm running out of M2 benchmades, so these M4's are right on time. All I have left of the M2's are a mini ritter grip in M2, and a Fixed blade, partially serrated, both NIB. I recently sold my 710, and stryker in M2.

BTW, has the introduction of M4 driven the cost of M2 benchmades down? They were getting pretty pricey there for a while. Joe

I do think prices on M2 Benchmades have gone soft with the M4 models now appearing on the market. The M2 blades remain hard to find though and still get snapped up quickly.

On the 710M4 knife I canceled my order based on a combination of economics mixed with not wanting to spend the money anyway after I learned the knife was not going to be satin with Micarta scales.

I well understand the suggestion for BK coating a tool steel blade, but the decision to make last minute production changes to the design we all waited for and months in length helped make my mind up.

I also will be buying one of the Lum Tanto models in M4 this year - that one really gets me going.

Mine came today.

The handle's green color is very dark. Like the contrast compared to black 710s.

Its axis lock is smoother than most of my recent Benchmades.

Don't like having "Limited Edition, 163 of 300" in large print across the blade, so close to the edge.

Pic has older M2HS on top, new M4 one on bottom:

Nice pic. I like the color of the handle. I see what you mean about the limited edition script. Not great. Overall looks like a winner.

I emailed Roger at knifeworks last night he got back to me early this morning and mine has shipped! I cant wait. That dark dark G-10 looks Great.

I got mine today. It was worth Rogers and benchmades trouble and effort. It is aligned perfectly, lock up is just right with no play. Grinds are great, and it came with a arm hair shaving edge.

I put my own edge on it and once again I'll say this is one of the easiest high performance steels to get really, really sharp. IMO, it takes a better edge than S30V, and D2. It should out do them by a bit in the wear resistance, and shock/impact resistance, but I haven't done any testing to prove that yet.

I do know that I could live with this steel for all uses, except perhaps diving/fishing knife due to it's corrosion potential, which seems worse than D2, and even M2. I'g give it same class as 52100 depending on finish for corrosion. Not a problem for me, and once again just a guess.

I will say it's easier to sharpen than any of the stainless "super steels" ( don't really like that term, it's too subjective). To me, it's easier than M2 at RC 62 appx for both. Much easier to get really sharp than ZDP, S90V, S30V, and even BG42. It's like CPM 154cm, but strops better and is easier to deburr.

You can tell I really like CPM M4. I guess I'll still take ZDP for thin folders, but give me M4 for everything else this side of a crow bar. I like it better than 3V for the darksider stuff. I've found nothing responds to a good polish/strop like M4 does. It has that savage edge that only tungsten containing steels have. Joe

Don't like having "Limited Edition, 163 of 300" in large print across the blade, so close to the edge.

Neither do I :barf:. A three digit number behind the thumbstud on the opposite side to the steel type (like on the M2 Ritters) would have been better.

I like everything about this knife, it did undergo a few design changes but it'll make a great edc , and this one will definitely be carried! Couple of minor fit/finish issues, blade was not perfectly centered but close enough for my liking. Also, noticed the backspacer has a slight gap in it on one side. First thing I noticed was the liners and hardware are blackened, clip is old style parkerized. The g10 seems to have more texture and grip than my older 710HSSR, not *quite*as slick; may rough it up a bit, leaving at-is for now. Have always found M2 to take a great edge, burring is almost non-existent. This knife arrived sharp, a few passes on the fine Sharpmaker rods at 15 degrees brought the knife to extremely sharp- really like the way it sharpens. The blade was originally to be satin finished, but I'm glad the decision was made to coat it; the flat black BK1 coating looks very good on this knife, and CPM-M4 is doubtlessly prone to rusting.

Thanks, definitely grab one if you can. I actually considered canceling my order when the switch was made from micarta to g10, something told me I'd kick myself had I done so. Always wanted a plain edge 710HS, the next best thing may actually be better :)
