Bm 710 m4??

mine is coming in on Monday..can't wait, i wil also have a d2 para military. a 943 and an izula OD kit.. in the same box... it is my birthday coming soon!!

Got #130. I think it looks great, G-10, coated blade, Ltd. Ed mark and all. The 710 design is not a "flavor of the month" -- it's timeless. Those who truly appreciate it should have jumped at an M4 version, regardless of the details like coating or markings. If I was one of those who changed his mind, I'd be seriously regreting it about now.

Agreed.

I've EDC'd a 710 more than any other knife.

They're not a "pretty" knife in the collectible sense, but they're great carry knives: a large and useful blade, yet very "flat" and inconspicuous in the pocket.

When I heard about the upcoming M4 version I jumped at the chance.

Actually, I'm kind of pissed at myself for not ordering 2...LOL :)

Don't regret it at all. I like the D2 version just fine but I think the G10 is way too slippery. I was hoping it would be micarta.

I like everything about this knife, ...

Nice picture. If they had that picture at Knifeworks.com a month ago I probably would have ordered one. Like the machining quality on the G10, looks very clean.

+1 I think I'd prefer micarta too. Maybe we'll see some similar production knives in the future.

Got mine. Blade is off center although no rubbing. Backspacer is very poorly fit. Has gap on one side.
As someone who has been buying mostly Spydercos for the past couple years, this BM does not measure up.
To all those considering buying BMs before prices go up, I would take pause.
This knife is not up to Spyderco's standards.

No Benchmade vs. Spyderco stuff please. Talk to Roger if you're not satisfied. Me? I'm very satisfied, and only wishing I could have afforded a second. Mine is aligned, tight, and sharp. Just as a knife from any maker is supposed to be. Joe

I hear you. It's just disappointing when you get a fancy limited edition knife and it has a couple of glaring faults.

Mine also has the gap between the backspacer and frame. It looks like the backspacer was molded with one side flat and the other side radiused, the outer edge seems to be rounded off. Doesn't seem to be a defect in workmanship, but definitely a design/molded part issue.

I went over the company's forum and looked around. The backspacer issue is the norm, apparently. Looks like getting an off center blade is not the norm, although someone else reported this.
I emailed Roger and he suggested that I send the knife into BM if I want them to try to adjust the blade centering.

So this begs the question; how do manufacturers handle spare parts and such with special runs/sprints runs?

What would happen if an off centered blade on a limited production knive with special markings was slightly bent or the pivot hole punched slightly off?

What do they do for spare parts if something that is not generic is bad or damaged?

Try adjusting the pivot screw. On some 710's, the female side isn't seated properly. Tighten pivot screw until it's snug (but not too tight. A good test is that the blade will be very difficult to open). Then back-off on the pivot screw until you have your desired opening tension. It should be a little stiff on opening, with no lateral blade play.

In an Axis lock, there's no lateral pressure on the blade, nor are the handle screws important in the blade's lateral tension, so if it's off center, it's usually a pivot screw issue, an off-centered pivot hole in the frame or (very rarely) a bent blade.

Just got mine and I'm happy. It's not very sharp, but I can fix that. The backspacer has that odd gap. Dano seems to have analyzed that correctly, and in any event I don't care.

The blade lockup is solid and the blade is centered. No. 136. I could do without all the writing on the blade. I've read shorter books. But I don't worry about it.

Can't wait to try out this new steel. Nice to have a 710 again, especially this one. Thanks Knifeworks.

I got #135.
Great knife, great quality, but... that one is my first 710, and I don't understand 710. Ares is the best.

I've been following this thread for awhile, and received #198 yesterday. I too noticed the gap between liner and spacer on one side immediately on first inspection. However, after checking my 3 other 710's, I realized they all had some amount of gap present as well. I think that perhaps the black liners cause the gap to be more noticeable on casual inspection. My other 710's with their bare stainless liners seem to hide this better. This is just a thought.
Also, I will say that the green G10 does seem to have more bite than the black, even though this isn't visually perceptible. I've never felt the black G10 to be too slippery, but know it was a concern by some.
All in all, I think this piece looks good, and wish I'd thought to order two.

Thanks. I just tried that. It didn't have any effect. I'm going to live with it the way it is.

Agreed, the backspacer is misaligned and my blade is a little off-center when closed. But i think mine (#124) takes the cake as far as "issues" are concerned. My thumb studs actually make contact with the G10 when i close the folder. This is evidenced through two shiny areas on the G10 where the contact is being made.

Secondly, also when closing the folder, my blade actually makes contact with the underside of the backspacer. I can actually see the grrove in the plastic backspacer where the blade is cutting into it.

I am a bit disappointed especially with BM trying to polish their brand name up, but even more so because this is a limited edition knife. Still a proud owner of the knife, it just leaves a bit more to be desired as far as fit and finish are concerned.
