Bose Knives

There really is no wrong answer - get what you like the best.

Napanoch bone is a great look. And it's relatively uncommon. Remington bone is also awesome. It seems a bit more common though. Stag is probably the current favorite, but that is cyclic. You can never go wrong with ivory, and the ivory they use is incredible! As another benefit, ivory will get a beautiful patina with use.

Search the photos in this thread. You will see some amazing ivory, beautiful stag, and wonderful Remington bone. I don't remember if there is any Napanoch bone pictured - like I said, it's uncommon. Which is why it would probably be my choice.

from post 1617:

This 3 1/8" single blade trapper is hafted with rare Napanoch bone and built on the serpentine frame. Blade and spring is D2.

CJC,

Not to confuse you anymore but you did say you had a longing for ivory, and there have been a lot of suggestions for bone, I thought I would give you this one to look at.

Napanoch bone would be my choice, hands down. Might be the rarest thing Reese has, and it provides a strong link to the tradition where all these beautiful knives come from!
On second thought, ask for something else! Save the Napanoch for me!!!:D

The Bose guys prefer more traditional handle materials which are, generally speaking, a little bit better to work with on several levels. That's not to say that they don't use it, it's just used very little and on request. Here's a couple of examples and there's more if you search around in this thread and on the BoseKnives.com gallery.

A Bose trapper with mammoth ivory scales would be very beautiful, but would leave me a bit cold. I have a very nice swayback with blue/green mammoth bark and the handles don't feel as warm as I expected.

When my name gets called in a few years I would be giddy if I could get my knife hafted in A.G. Russell bone. The HTT on the 1st page of this thread haunts me, it's my favorite out of all the beautiful knives shown here. I know that the supply of A.G. Russell bone has dried up, but a guy can dream can't he?

Looks like there are some benefits to coming to Jersey after all. :D Saw that piece in person - absolutely gorgeous!

Just wanted to give a quick thanks to everyones input on choosing a handle material for my Reese Bose WC trapper. I spoke with Reese and decided to go with Napanoch bone. Hopefully it won't be long and we can take a good look at it! In the meantime maybe at some point Mr Hampton might be able to get some work in progress pics! Or atleast a shot of the finished product! Thanks again guys...... Oh and Vince I wasn't shy with this!
