Bose Knives

Wow, Andy that is a really special one and absolutely gorgeous! Is that the standard 3 1/2" frame? Love it with no shield.

Ben, thanks so much for the nice comment! Yes, it is the standard 3 1/2" size. I have been looking for a Bose WT for quite a while and to find one in MOP was really exciting. It looked good at the seller's website but when it arrived I was blown away. Mother of pearl tends to look so much better in person than in photos. I would love to know the history of this knife if anyone on the forum knows. Thanks again. Andy

Very nice. I especially like the ones with the numbers on them. Love the Arrowhead shield, too. Simple. Distinctive. Special. I hope you are carrying them both. Life is short and they are too nice to leave at home!

Welcome to the Forum, Andy.

Thanks sierracharlie for the kind welcome! I have really enjoyed reading your posts throughout this thread and seeing all the photos you have shared. The Wharncliffe Trapper I posted is in my pocket now......

I wonder what percentage of Bose knives actually get carried and used. Can't keep this one out of my pocket.
Went to Wakefield MA for Labor Day and walked round the circumference of the pond with the little guy.
Found some turtles and carried the R.Bose teardrop Prototype.

Really nice stag on that one for sure and the perfect shield I might add, Andy.

Speaking of stag...in a lightening bolt of luck, a sheer moment of a miracle, a...well you get the point, I was able to have a Drop Point Hunter made by Tony. The steel is his ground finished D2. The stag is amazing in the hand and the tapered tang is executed perfectly to give the knife the right balance.

I was told that Tony made this up quick since he was informed that I would be using it this hunting season and he wanted me to have it in time. I can't thank you enough Tony!!

Sorry for the lackluster pictures, as quickly as I unpackaged it, it was packaged back up and sent off to have a sheath made for it. It may take 3-4 weeks before I have it back but that's perfect timing since we'll just be starting archery season which begins October 1st!

Jake, thanks for the nice reply. Wow, what a great knife you have, I really like D2 (perhaps my favorite steel). And to have Tony make one especially for you for the upcoming deer season is awesome. Field dressing should be a bit quicker this year.......

Thanks Andy, I really like D2 as well but haven't had the pleasure of using it in this capacity yet. Really looking forward to seeing how it performs. As for making the field dressing quicker, I may find myself taking my time and enjoying using the knife too much to speed it up lol.

Last year I used this same pattern knife but it was one made by Rick Menefee and it was in 154CM. It will be great to see the comparison between the steel.

Very nice distal taper on that one, Jake, and the Stag is supernal of course!! Do you know what hardness Tony runs his D2 at? In my experience D2 cuts and cuts and cuts...

I don't know what the exact hardness is but from reading and a little searching I believe he shoots for the benchmark of 60-61 with his D2.

Thanks Jake. I spoke with Bob Dozier a couple of years ago. He said that the ability to hold heat treat to within two points instead of the typical three-point spread made edge-holding ability orders-of-magnitude better. I'm sure Tony's are just are fantastic!

I love seeing all the new blood on the Bose Forum. Welcome Everybody.

I am a 440V guy. Set it and forget it. My Tony and Reese 440V knives will cut up a room full of cardboard and still shave my arm. It is an all day sucker. I don't like a knife I have to be careful of. I have one of the rarer W-2 knives from Tony via Don Hanson and it will hang in there but is carbon steel and will pit and rust in your pocket. It does not require usage to lose its edge. It gets crazy sharp but is not for everybody and not for me every day. The D2 is just as good as 440V and easier to re-sharpen. It is a great knife for the deer guy or the whittler. I have had a couple but you have to baby them because they will rust in your everyday pocket. It is not a set it and forget it knife like the 440V. I have had beautiful D2 knives which showed rust inside on the springs. If you have the skill to maintain them, D2 is great. But D2 requires a vigilant owner. No inattention allowed.

Inattention 'R Us at my house. The more skills you have the less gear you need. I have less skill and need easier gear to deal with. 440V for me.

Jake, fantastic knife! I have had very good experiences with Dozier's D2 in the past and no doubt you will find the Bose every bit as capable. 3 1/4" on the blade?

I think that knife was 62.5. That's right where I like them. Ill be interested to see how you like that after using it. I have many of those in service from the past. Haven't heard any complaints yet. With reasonable care you wont have any rust problems at that Rockwell.

Glad to see you post back in here Tony, one of my upcoming pieces from Reese will be in as ground D2 and I can't wait as it will be a dedicated user.
Jake still hasn't stopped talking about that fixed blade to me in our texts :D
