Brass is back on the menu... GEC #44

Very cool story and you got a button too! Just curious, were there any stags in satin available? :)
The Northfield Stag 44's that I saw were all polished with etch. There were about 30 tubes filled and 30 that i got to look through that hadn't been "tubed". I dont know how many they actually were running.

By the way...if anyone is still interested in the cocobolo 44 with satin finish they are available at CK.

Wow.

What a nice story behind your knife.

Great stag.

I missed out on the stag.

I hope to see more pics of the 44 in stag.

Did not know you could go to the factory and buy a knife directly.

Congrats..

The stag is just now becoming available on dealers sites - there's still a chance to grab one if you're wanting one. Its the only 44 I decided to get.

Hi All:

I haven't been as active in the forums lately, but it doesnt mean I've left you all. Just reading when i can. Anyhow, last Thursday after work, in an effort to squeeze one more excursion into this summer with my boys, we headed to Niagara Falls, via TITUSVILLE.

From central Maryland to Titusville takes one through some rugged country, but the pay off last Friday was worth it. It's been since 2013 since I'd been through the doors and it was my boys first time. As my boys chose one knife from the store, I asked Chris about the stag gunstock, she said their in final inspection right now (last Fri), and would I like to go look at the lot and pick One? Well, who wouldn't want to do that! So I picked a narly set with even-fat stag and i just really like it.

For those that have been around a while, you know from pictures and past threads that I have always gravited to the large QCCC gunstock and I have quite a collection of those. These GEC versions are just perfect. Anyhow, the picture, from the car, in GECs parking lot from last Friday, literally hot off the production line.......

So, what did your boys decide on?

Can someone please explain to me what makes this stag knife a "Northfield" knife? Thanks.

I thought they always had a bolster upgrade too......like lined bolsters or grooved bolsters, but apparently not. When I looked at the pictures that shows all the #44 knives, all the nickel silver bolsters look the same whether Tidioute or Northfield.

This is the first time, in a long time - where this is the case. They simply just stayed with two toolings for bolsters instead of going to three just to accommodate the stag.

The differences between Tidioute and Northfield have been narrowing.

I can't agree with this. But would be interested in some evidence other than the #44 stag - as maybe this has just snuck up on me.

I was just thinking out loud... Long pulls have appeared on both models. The same thing for nail knicks, seen on both models. So those are not very model dependent.

We've now seen both models with satin finished blades. Just today someone posted a picture of a Tidioute with lined bolsters. Not saying it's a trend... But the differences are not guaranteed.

Oh, I understand. You mean there are aspects which are not necessarily dedicated to one brand or the other - not that there is actually little difference in a given production run.
This has actually been the case since the beginning, with pulls and finishes. I have been getting Northfield with satin blades for many years. The gap has actually been widening on what the factory will do on only one or the other.

This clarifies your perception; and I do understand it can be a bit perplexing at times.

Exactly. Sorry I wasn't more clear in my original post.
