Bringing new life to an old TL-29 using simple hand tools

Great work, Lemmy! :thumbup::thumbup:
There's getting to be an impressive Mod Squad around here. :D
I sure admire the skills and talent you folks display.

Some impressive work! I'm thinking about giving one a try myself. Where are you getting the pins from? Anybody point me in the right direction?

I'm PMing you now, but usually hobby stores or the big auction sites. I go to an ancient store in NYC for sculptors.

I buy mine from Jantz supply online (www.knifemaking.com), or the local True Value (for brass only). I got the nickel silver scale pins for my Camillus knives on eBay. They are leftovers from the closing of the Schrade factory, and precut to around an inch, with a point on them. The correct diameter for the scale holes is .080 inches, and the blade pivot pin is .093 inches.

Just finished this Imperial 2 blade Maroon Linen Shadow Toothpick job. The original scales were shell construction. I' really liking this one a lot more. Size is perfect to me, 4 1/4" closed, 3/8" thick, about the same size as my single blade GEC's but twice the blades. Thanks again Evan for the instruction.

Really awesome job there, Lemmy!

haha! thanks guys! As y'all probably know I have an affinity for Toothpicks, but I hadn't found a 2 blade toothpick I felt properly preserved the slimness I think of as quintessential to the pattern. I also prefer a medium length around 4 inches. Closest I'd found was on this old Imperial so I thought I'd give it an upgrade. I can see doing these in many variations, maybe one with a punch?

That's fantastic work, Lemmy!! :thumbup::thumbup:
I have that same knife, but with clip-on bolsters and yellow plastic. What a world of difference your new covers make!

The sky is the limit! That is the beauty of creation! You can make whatever the heck you want!! View attachment 494245

Lets see a punchy toothpick!!

Righto. You know some of the original Laguioles sport a punch instead of or in addition to a corkscrew, usually on the opposite end bolster. So it seems it would make sense for a toothpick to have one. The American version should be a jack though, Clip and punch on the same pivot.

Beautiful mod, Lemmy!!!

Great work Lemmy, you might have inspired me to give this modding thing a try. Thanks to you also Evan, you created this monster.
