Broke my ankle

Haha gave me a much needed smile, thanks TF

Right after the post above G2 broke out the stitching prongs and fixed the darn bone himself. When the doctor saw it upon next visit he couldn't believe how well the stitching was done. Almost like he has been doing stitches in skin and other natural elements for years.

Gary does it right folks - laid that stitch right in the grove and stitched it wet. ;)

Smoke for you G2. To one of the nicest guys on the board.

Fair winds and following seas brother.

TF

Hey Gary,
This gave me a smile also, but the last joke that you posted made me LAUGH out loud.
I am glad that you got a good sense of humor and are going to use it during this bump in the road.

Sorry to hear you were right. Bummer.
Hope the docs fix you up good.

Thanks Tim, I thought that was a funny one too ;)
and thanks Frank, I'm hoping they do as well, I'm wearing what looks like a Robo-Cop boot right now, instead of a cast, the more modern thing I guess, plus it'll be easier for them to take that X-Ray next week to decide if it really needs a pin to pull things closer. Fingers crossed for not needing it, but more than likely I guessing they will want to.

I'm bummed to hear you were right about the break, I hope you have a swift and complete recovery.

Thanks I'm hoping for a speedy recovery too.

I have an urge to have a meal at the International House Of Pancakes ....

Otherwise known as IHOP :)

Next time someone tells you you deserve a break, now you can say, no thanks, already had one ...

Ha, indeed, thanks, 60 years and my first break, swelling down a little, discolouration up a lot, well it was on Friday but last night when I took the boot off and put some ice on it, the discolouration appeared to me to be less. The doc thinks the Urgent Care folks put the temp splint on a bit too snug as I had indentations on my calf and discolouration up a ways on there too. While they didn't say anything about the UC guys, I could tell they were not too keen about them, but, I was in pain and may not have read them right.

G2

They may very well have put it on right at the time, but sitting around, your foot / leg tend to swell. That edema will lead to the indentations.

It certainly felt better being secure! as I just had an ace bandage and ice before, those splints were strange affairs, white pad like strips about 4" wide, they must have dampened them and later that night, they became as hard as a rock but the very top edges were also sharp, should have rolled them over, ended up stuffing some cotton pads along the edges so as not to dig into my skin.

This new 'boot' takes some getting use to, not heavy but boy my leg gets tired hauling it around without touching the ground ;)
G2

Gary, I hope your recovery goes well.

BTW, hope you get a good Peanut in return. I've gotten three lately and all had good F&F, so I'm sure you'll get a good one in return.

Thanks Ken and Jmac, and Ken, the place I returned it got it yesterday but no reply from them yet, I imagine I'm one of a thousand things they do, they did try to brush off the blade play with "most Case knives can have blade play" but I've had a lot that didn't and this one isn't inexpensive, well, at least to me it's not, hope the next one is right as rain ;) I could use something to go right for a change...

Plate and Pins....Pins and Plate, both of which require Surgery, which I will be having tomorrow around 2pm

Just back from the Doc's, could have covered it with a phone call as he didn't need to take another xray or even examine my foot. He went by the previous xray's and showed me what was going on. The ties that bind in my foot snapped, when it folded up against the outside of my leg, which is why there is way more bruising on the side opposite of the bone fracture.

Then he explained that they would put a plate along the bone that was broken to pull the two pieces into place. And then, they will put pins, a couple at least, through the plate and into the larger bone to try and pull that over to close the gap and promote healing of the ligaments/tendons...

Gonna be a LONG LONG day tomorrow I'm afraid !!!
And the Doc said, NO pressure on that foot once the pins are in place, he showed me a fellow's xray, had basically the very same fracture, nice long plate, MANY pins holding the plate to the smaller pieces of bone, and several pins pulling the larger bone over....BUT I noticed that the gap of the mortise was still rather wide, wider than mine was right now, and the Doc said 'Good eye there, I taught you well !, that fellow didn't listen and put weight on his foot and caused the pins to slip and he needs to get it repaired" WOW, a real confidence builder doc ;) or at least a very good warning for me.

He said he may have me stay the nite as it will be a very long day, surgery will take just over an hour and recovery from the OR a couple hours, sometimes it's best to keep people there just for the nite, but, if I come out of it and decide nah, then I am free to head home.

We shall see, I will be bringing my new Kindle white that my kids got me for Christmas to read during the long wait periods, to keep my mind off food...

Wish me well guys, I'm gonna need it.
G2

Gary,
I WISH YOU WELL.
It sounds like You have a GOOD Doctor that explains everything
and shows You why to not put weight on it after it is repaired.
It was worth Your trip to see that and listen to him.
When you are on the mend and make visits to the Doctor for a follow up, be
sure to show him a nice folder to get him hooked ( I mean interested ) like "us ".
There is a plan here somewhere and we are part of it.

Gary, I had a total left hip joint replacement 2 years ago. I got to the hospital the morning of the surgery (family with me all day) and got checked into my room, changed into hospital gown, and waited.

Then they wheeled me to the operating area, anesthesiologist came out to explain his part of the procedure (which my surgeon had already gone over with me). Then into surgery where three little nurse elves transferred me to the operating table and rolled me onto my left side.

Then I felt an almost imperceptible touch at the base of my spine and "immediately" woke up back in my room, no pain, big smile on my face, new joint in place. That easy ... once you go for the surgery, problems are over.

Heal up, completely and swiftly, but don't rush it! :D

Comforting words and MUCH appreciated right now!!!
And maybe on one of my check ups I'll show a folder off ;)
G2

Gary,
Your Wife and Family will ALSO be in my Thoughts and Prayers.
Because, while You are sound asleep surrounded by Skilled Doctors and Nurses, Your Loved Ones will be patiently waiting.
ALL things considered You will be FINE.

Thanks Tim, can't forget the family, of course I feel like I've let them down getting hurt. But I take some solace in the fact that it was a break in the ice that gave way and caused this accident, plus me carrying too much at one time.

Man, where's that time machine when you need it ;)
G2

Good luck Gary! Follow the docs orders and you'll do fine. I had an internal fixation of the right ankle 21 years ago and am getting around just fine on it.

John
