Mr. Tettnanger,
I'll take it.
I’m not sure but from the way Jeff stated it that they are using a new sharpening method. He didn’t elaborate on it but I think the edge is still sharpened to the same angle just done in a new method. I don’t know maybe they are using some kind of guide system for better accuracy and consistency.Back in 1999 Buck introduced Edge 2000, also known as Edge2x™, where the final edge angle was reduced from 17.5 -25 degrees, to 13-16 degrees per side. At the time they stated this, “Technology ensures the knife has a sharper edge out of the box, stays sharp longer and is easier to re-sharpen.”
Is this year's new sharpening method for all knives or just Magnacut? How have they achieved higher CATRA scores? Lowering the angles more, changing the hollow grind geometry, wet grinding to reduce burnt edges, adding a micro bevel, or...?

The first thing I did with mine was to measure the angle with my goniometer. It measured a very consistent 15 degrees, both sides of the blade, heel to tip. This is a sample size of one out of one thousand so it doesn't really prove anything.
I have found that it is common for new knives to have a difference in angle, a few degrees, one side of the bade to the other. This has been the case across all brands that I have tested, not just Bucks. With Bucks, the BOTM and other special runs have usually be good. Standard run knives, have more chance of an angle difference. If there is an angle difference it doesn't bother me. It's still sharp. It still cuts, and it's easy to correct when I resharpen the blade. This is my observations from the knives I have handled.
O.B.

I have one with your name on it!So . . . I thought I could live without a Magnacut Buck 110, but you guys are making it difficult.
Must keep reciting mantra: 420HC is fine. It cuts like any other cuts. It's easy to sharpen. It's . . . awww . . . who am I foolin'?

yeah that's disappointing. other than that it lools good. I noticed the bolsters are lightly scratch patterned on most of these. mine included. easily fixed. just not the best Buck can do.....Picked mine up from the mail house and found that it was not finished in the depression of the lock as shown in the photo. Nice covers, the blade is sharp and the grind is even. I'l work on the problem area. Had to do the same on another 110 several years ago.

Mine is a carbon copy of yours but I'm not concerned about it right now since this one will see some use.
